My Dad was in the Army and we got stationed in Munich Germany from 1950 to 1953. There was no US military base housing so we lived on the economy in a normal Munich neighborhood and my (6-9 years old) friends were all German. I spent most of my life wondering how those intelligent kind people could ever have supported Hitler and the things he did. Now I know. I am seeing near half of the US electorate supporting the exact same hate and anger issues that galvanized the Germans in the first half of the 19th century. It is sad that they have no sense of history or self awareness so cannot see the same trap they are falling into that the normal Germans fell into near a 100 years ago.
