Louvre heist suspects face theft and conspiracy charges • FRANCE 24 English

Two suspects have been arrested over the Louv crown jewel heist and they are set to be charged now with theft and criminal conspiracy. This has all been confirmed by the Paris prosecutor. Just to remind you, Sunday, October the 19th, as the museum opened for visitors, an audacious raid was carried out. The gang making off with 88 million euros worth of jewels, the French crown jewels in fact, which are still missing. Well, the Paris prosecutor spoke a little earlier. These two men are suspected of being those who penetrated the Apollo gallery to take the jewels. The first aged 34 and of Algerian nationality. The second suspect is aged 39. He’s already known to authorities for aggravated theft perpetrated in 2008 and 2014. He’s also under judicial supervision in another case of aggravated theft. Paris prosecutor L beawal Kath Trent has been following the story for us. The Paris prosecutor said that the two men who were taken into custody on Saturday night have been up before a judge and the charges they are looking at are uh robbery as part of an organized gang and being part of a criminal conspiracy. Um, those two men she said had partially confessed to taking part in the Louvre jewel theft, although she didn’t go into much more detail about what they said because she said this was an ongoing investigation. We also know there are at least two more suspects still on the run. DNA samples from at least four people were found at the scene uh by the forensics team who found more than 150 DNA samples in and around the louver at the site of that robbery. And the the prosecutors aren’t um ruling out that there could be other accompllices too, although they did say that it’s at this stage they had no evidence that made them believe that there were accompllices inside the museum, that this was an inside job. Importantly, the prosecutor said they still haven’t managed to recover any of the the priceless jewels that were stolen from inside the museum. And the prosecutor made an appeal to anyone who might have them or come into contact with them, saying that it was still not too late to give them back. Meanwhile, we got a few more details about the men who are in custody. Both of them had been living in the suburbs north of Paris. One of them, a 34 year old man, an Algerian national, had been arrested at Shogul airport on Saturday night as he was preparing to board a flight to Algeria on a one-way ticket. He was previously known to police for theft. The other one, a 39year-old man who had previously been convicted of theft in 2004 and 2018. So the investigation continues as to the questions about how such a theft and such a major security breach at the Lou Museum could have happened. Katherine Norris trans following the story of the theft of the French crown jewels from the Louvre. Two men set to be charged with theft and conspiracy. The hunt of course for the jewels and the rest of the gang continues.

Two men arrested over the jewel heist at France’s Louvre museum this month will be charged with theft and criminal conspiracy, the Paris prosecutor said Wednesday. Dozens of detectives have been on the trail of four thieves who used a cherry-picker truck and cutting gear to break into a first-floor gallery at the world-renowned museum, then fled with jewellery estimated to be worth more than $102 million. FRANCE 24’s Catherine Norris-Trent reports.

  1. They committed theft before, were released. And then, to the surprise of no one sane, committed theft again.

Perhaps it was the releasing part that was the problem here.

  2. Theft ok but conspiracy? I am sure they are escapegoats. I know how they interrogate there, obliterating all humsn rights.

  3. So the captured ones are 1, the one who went up at Louvre and Stole the France Crown Jewels, No. 2 Guy was the one Driving the Getaway Moto coz some DNA were found on the motorcycle? Meaning the other Thief who Actually Broke into Louvre has Not been captured yet?

  4. Damn they have criminal charges and still let them go free??? That’s the consequences that we are paying 😢😢😢😢. Once criminals, always in jail should be the only option in 2025

  5. Based on the comments here, the solution is to lock up everyone. If all of us are in jail and monitored by robots, there would be no crime, no wars. Let's make it so.
