  1. Well, one more day and it’ll be the longest shut down in American history. Yay.

  2. I wonder what shares GOP politician are either shorting or buying. Because whenever and whatever Trump decides to do is when they’ll shoot up.

  3. On any given day it must suck to actually be Mike Johnson, but on days like today when he has to juggle [blaming Democrats](https://mikejohnson.house.gov/services/government-shutdown.htm) for continuing to keep the government shutdown while appeasing a president doing [all caps rants](https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/trump-makes-power-grab-terrifying-060356603.html) about how Republicans can end it at any time?

If he were actually on the job rather than keeping the House in recess I would say he’s earning his salary.

Just kidding, no he wouldn’t be.

  4. Imagine a world where a government shutdown doesn’t mean millions of people stop getting paid or vital services grind to a halt!!!

Where healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Where nobody goes bankrupt from a hospital bill. Where teachers earn enough to actually live and don’t crowdsource classroom supplies. Where mass shootings aren’t just another Tuesday. Where college is affordable, childcare is accessible, and prescription drugs don’t cost more than your rent. Where every worker gets pto, parental leave, a living wage. Where climate policy is based on science, not donors.

And when the government shuts down, life doesn’t collapse, because the system was built to serve the public… not to use ordinary people as bargaining chips.

That world already exists. It’s called Norway.

  5. Day 34 and no end in sight. Republicans refusing to negotiate. Trump is happy with his continued failures because he hates Americans

  6. It took only 10 ATC employees to call in sick last time to end the last shutdown. 10. Out of a total of over 11 thousand employees. Just 10.

Good news is [it’s starting to happen.](https://abcnews.go.com/US/delays-safety-concerns-shortages-air-traffic-controllers/story?id=127055961) I predict this shutdown will be over sometime this coming week when Congress gets a phone call or two from Richie rich on why their private jet is grounded and they can’t get to their sex island

  7. The Republican party is a cancer that will kill America.

  8. That clip of Trump saying the president is responsible for a shutdown… why isn’t that being played on repeat?

  9. I contacted the democrats considering giving in to republicans asking them to hold the line. I’m genuinely scared if they vote to reopen the government without a true extension of the ACA tax credits, there will be no more lines left to hold. If democrats give on this, republicans will shut the government down in lieu of negotiating again and again.

If you are a constituent of these democrats please contact them. If you don’t agree with me and want the government reopened without negotiation, I respect your opinion. I just hope we can keep our constitutional rights to have different opinions and share them

  10. Hold the line, Democrats. Your job is to advocate for the people, not give into Republican demands every time they throw a tantrum.

  11. I’m in Canada and have to fly to Philadelphia on Nov 20. Should I prepare to drive down instead? Will this realistically be over by then?

  12. Is there something I’m missing, or is the ONLY thing holding up re-opening the government the ACA and medical insurance costs going up to the point they are unaffordable? Why aren’t people hammering in this point further? Republicans should be pressuring their representativies too to fight for better health care coverage and options and give this much more visibliity.

It sounds like both sides are willing to agree on opening the government if this one thing is addressed. So let’s keep reminding people of this one thing that basically everyone wants.

  13. Feels like there’s an increasing amount of smoke around the possibility of caving with several people highlighted as possible cavers, Sanders publicly urging Dems not to cave, etc. As has been pointed out a major reason for the unpopularity of Dems right now is that they are perceived as weak, so I sure as shit hope they figure out how to hold the line and/or that the reports that some of them are trying to figure out a way to cave is just Republican wishcasting

  14. None of this shit would be happening under Bernie, just sayin

  15. 34 days? Oh snap looking like we might break the record soon.
The biggest shutdowns…the citizens came to us with tears in their eyes saying, this is the biggest, baddest shutdown.

  16. Another day in the Republican Shutdown. The War Against America they began is going well for them, although they are losing support among the people. Maybe that’s why they want to use federal agents and the National Guard to seize polling locations or pull people out of line they think might be an immigrant (whom they consider a likely Democratic voter, which is the actual goal.) They don’t need fair elections going forward, but most of that kicks in next year and they know Americans broadly will do literally nothing to defend them.

Of course, if Dems fold here, then forget about people voting Dem next year anyway. Americans hate cowards.
