It’s heartbreaking to see how often people smoke openly in public places across Luxembourg for instance on terraces, at train stations, and even near playgrounds and parking areas. The smoke drifts everywhere, affecting non-smokers, small children, pregnant women, and those with health problems who simply want to breathe clean air.

Everyone deserves the right to enjoy public spaces without being exposed to harmful smoke. Together, we can make Luxembourg a healthier, more respectful, and cleaner place for all.

Please take a moment to stand up for this cause and sign Petition No. 3807 to help ban smoking in public areas:

  1. Do you know how much money the government makes from smokers?

  2. Outdoor second hand smoke is little more than a nuisance, so can we stop with the “can someone please think of the children” type arguments?

Smoking was banned indoors because the residue accumulates over long periods of time and people working in such spaces would be exposed for thousands of hours over their career.

You having to move by two meters in an outdoor space is not comparable and pretending it is, is patently dishonest.

Now bring the downvotes, I know how unpopular this opinion is.

  3. Sorry, I am with u/ForeverShiny here. Indoors is understandable but this? It’s too much. I think you should look up first at much bigger poluters before going into the direction of the smell of the cigarettes that you might catch here and there.

  4. I dont smoke but I love people smoking in public places. We should support people hanging out and chatting.

  5. I’d sign it but I don’t see how my home address is relevant.

  6. Too bad this petition goes way beyond any reasonable ask.
I think it’s disgusting having to breathe cigarette smoke when you’re eating at a terrace and I would love to have smoke free terraces. However to ask cigarettes to be banned from all public spaces is unrealistic and an infringement on peoples freedoms in a way that it will never be approved.

  7. Grow some balls ffs. It’s outdoor smoking. Stop acting like it’s dangerous and get a life.

  8. Collecting signatures for people who smoke in OPEN spaces but not about the cars in traffic that suffocate every pedestrian.

    Tell me about priorities 🤷🏻‍♂️

  9. I’ll support this the day we outlaw internal combustion engines outdoors.

  10. People will just tell you:

” Deng Fräiheet hält do op, wou meng Ufänkt!”

I think it’s a war you cannot win. Just like alcohol… How many are run over by car drivers being under influence?

So, let’s just forbid alcohol, no?

  11. Yeaaahhhh no, I don’t smoke but I’m certainly not going to start to care about some dude smoking 5 meters away in open air. You’ve got worse things to worry about buddy.

  12. you live in europe you’re lucky they’re not smoking inside

  13. Will sign. Smokers can cry, I don’t want to be forced to breathe their cancerous smoke.

  14. Oh c’mon. This is so ridiculous. I don’t smoke but I would never go that far stomping over people’s right to live. If someone is bothering me with their smoke while outdoors I will simply signal to them. When this has happened, so rarely btw, they’ve always complied in a very nice way. What a pain you must be for your entourage.

  15. Let’s gooooo.

It should be like Japan (at least some parts) that people can smoke only in designated areas. I don’t want to have smoking people in fricking bus stops.

  16. I think this is stepping on others’ freedom. Combustion cars pollute much more than cigarrettes, you just may not see it, and it does not sound reasonable to fully ban combustion cars right away.
Most smokers are polite, some may be impolite, but enforcing a ban seems too much to me

  17. Canadian living in Lux and it’s working great over there – can’t smoke within 9 metres of a public entrance, on patios, and spaces such as campuses and hospital grounds. It makes sense
