The Home Office has issued a statement following reports that a convicted paedophile was arrested at a hotel housing asylum seekers.
Labour MP for Altrincham and Sale West Connor Rand previously said the suspect ‘should never have been allowed in this country’ as he shared resident’s ‘anger’ at being ‘kept in the dark’ about the arrest.
It was reported that the 32-year-old man had been arrested by the National Crime Agency at the Britannia Ashley Hotel in Hale, which is currently being used to house migrants.

The Trafford Conservatives said he was wanted by German authorities. The details of the arrest on October 17 were not made public.
In a statement online, Rand claimed he, the council and Greater Manchester Police were ‘not made aware’ of the arrest, which was carried out as a European Arrest Warrant.
The Home Office has now said it ‘does everything in its power’ to deport foreign nationals ‘who commit serious crimes’ in the UK. Of the total returns since July 5 last year, 5,179 were foreign national offenders. It does not comment on individual cases.
A spokesperson added: “When foreign nationals commit serious crimes in our country, we will always do everything in our power to deport them.
“This government deported almost 5,200 foreign national offenders in its first year in office, a 14 per cent increase on the previous year, and we will continue to do everything we can to remove these vile criminals from our streets.”
In a statement, MP Rand published: “While I am grateful to the NCA for their work to apprehend a clearly dangerous individual, I share the anger of residents that we were kept in the dark about such a serious incident.
“Local police, politicians and residents should have been told about this arrest and why it had taken place. The safety of residents will always be my top priority.
“The individual who has been arrested should never have been allowed in this country. I understand they now face extradition, and I will be writing to the Home Office to request they are deported as soon as possible.”
