I’m a federal civil servant and we have this already. Not sure if it’s two or three non-consecutive days per year. Never used it but think I should: phone in sick, notify boss, get to doctor (all busy these days), perhaps a trip to the pharmacy, post the special “only for federal civil servants” sick note (trip to post office for stamps), notify boss when you’ll return now that you know the end date, remember you phoned in for just one day so you don’t need to change that. After all that, rest a couple of hours before kids come home and you can’t rest anymore.
My silent resistance is not calling in sick before 9AM: I don’t know if the doctor will give me a sick leave note or not and not sure you can cancel it after phoning in.
I thought this was already the case since october last year?
Ah, finally. Our great leaders have decided that workers can be trusted after all to do the right thing, we no longer have to pay a micro-fine to be off sick and oversubscribed doctors can concentrate on patients with proper conditions.
Ironically in the US I have had no doctors note for up to 4 days and still got paid sick leave. Though I started there with 15 days leave per year and now I have 38 in Belgium…
I do wonder what kind of illness these are aimed at: unless adjacent to a weekend I think every single time I’ve stayed home sick from work (not often mind you), it was more than 1 day.
Stomach flue is probably a few days on average, flu is 3 to 5 days, novel coronavirus is a week, etc.
– 3 non-consecutive days per year.
– Only for companies with 50 or more employees.
The remaining working class will still have to submit a note.
My experience is that when I show up to the doctor she writes 2-3 days standard (maybe her form of a silent boycot). So it may actually lead to less sick leave for workers. I’m surprised this point isn’t used more to counter the idiots at the VBO.
