After a one-year hiatus – the small but mighty Moldova is set to return to Eurovision in 2026! The EBU confirmed over social media this evening they are preparing to hit the big stage in Vienna.
The participation will mark their 20th year competing at the Eurovision Song Contest!
This follows fellow returnees Bulgaria and Romania whom also confirmed their participation this week!
Eurovision director Martin Green welcomed the Balkan nation back:
“We are delighted to welcome the public broadcaster TRM from Moldova to the contest after a year of absence. Moldova’s return to the contest reminds us of the power of our community, the strength of values and what it truly means to be united through music.”
Local broadcaster Teleradio Moldova held a press conference this morning to discuss their participation and new national final selection process. For the first time, the national selection will be coordinated by two producers: Serghei Orlov and Roman Burlaca. Known for their local music talent connections and expertise.
The conference highlighted “The involvement of producers in the national contest ensures a professional, transparent and credible selection, which emphasizes the artistic value and international competitiveness of the songs”.
Artists may nominate songs for the national selection from November 7 and submissions will be open for the next 30 days.
Further details of the voting process were revealed. The jury for the final will consist of 20 members, 5 international and 15 local. No mention was made to the televote process or spilt between the jury and televote.
Moldova’s best result remains SunStroke Project’s Hey Mamma which soared to 3rd place at the 2017 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. Perhaps 2025 will bring them another epic results!
