Why are the call handlers talking to them? They need to be far more assertive. One guy had it nailed to be fair the others are far too polite.

I mean, hearing the second guy say ‘I can’t drive my car so if that’s not an emergency I don’t know what is!’ And this reminded me how during almost every training we go through in the ambulance service it’s drilled into you that ‘for you it may not be an emergency but to someone else may feel like their world is ending’. I know everyone has a different idea of an emergency but it’s quite difficult not to have a bit of an unconscious bias towards people like this 🥲 and more often than not the general public do prove you that common sense is not that common 🫠

The first one about the A406 is utterly unspriring given the way that morons drive on that road. I expect the only reason why the police don’t get more calls like that is that most of the people there haven’t figured out how to use a phone yet

What would a world with a Community Services unit be like? Maybe with subunits in boroughs, with social services, people available for hugs. Clearly such support is called for when adults are at sixes and sevens.

This doesn’t surprise me at all, up and down the country accident and emergencie departments are overflowing with people who have not had an accident nor are having a life threatening emergency, they just treat it like a walk in centre. Why can’t people seem to be able to cope with anything anymore?

So glad the last two call handlers were so clear about the irresponsible nature of those calls. The others needed to be more robust with these people. It’s scary that these people are clogging up the lines while life and death situations are occurring.
I wish that in cases like this the responders are allowed to ask the question “Are you an idiot sir/madam? Have a word with yourself.”
