  2. Let’s not pretend that tarrifs mean a different thing for Canadians than Americans. We citizens paid $3B in extra taxes over half a year.

    Canada applied a tax to US goods imported to Canada – for most of which there is no domestic substitute. Canadians paid +$3 billion in tax before the government dropped it; only Canada and China put reciprocal tariffs on US products.

  5. Casually like to remind everyone since its relevant the pc’s under pierre plan to cut a bunch of taxes to make you feel good then backfeed the lost funds with tarrifs as revenue. So everything would lose its tax yay but everything jumps 20% to cover the federal spending since were funding the gov through tarrifs boo.

  6. So canada and the US each gave eachother $3 billion and somehow each is simultaneously the winner or a big loser depending on the observer’s political leanings.

  7. Just because the tarrifs were dropped/stayed doesnt mean they cant be reinstated. Remember that like US citizens any tariff the Canadian government applies will be paid by Canadians.
    So careful what you wish for folks

  13. What would be a great headline is that all tariff revenue are to be redirected to social programs such as new hospitals, more doctors, and jump starting home construction. That’s OUR money, it’s taxes, paid by the consumer (us). Put that money directly into something tangible that all citizens can see and use.

  18. Nice 3B taken from taxpayers but the BC govt said they were too poor to give inflation met raises for union workers.

    Despite those raises only costing 250M.

  19. Collected from Canadians, but at least in our case they plan on using these funds to help out the industries affected. In the US i believe their tariff income is to sustain the tax cuts they gave the billionaires.

  20. Collected $3B from Canadian businesses and citizens. This isn’t something to celebrate. It’s quantifying, to a degree, how we were hosed down by the opportunist ruling class.
