(WBFF) — Residents of Baltimore’s Fells Point neighborhood expressed mixed opinions on how to address the city’s crime problem following a violent weekend.

In less than 90 minutes, three separate shootings occurred between Canton and Fells Point, resulting in one death. “That is absolutely ridiculous that many people got shot,” one resident said.

FOX45 News set up a soapbox in Fells Point to gather local reactions.

Some residents expressed fear and frustration. “None of my friends, they won’t come out anymore,” one person said, while another noted, “A lot of petty crime… a lot of petty people crime.”

The idea of deploying the National Guard to Baltimore has sparked debate. While some residents support the move, others strongly oppose it. “I honestly think it’s a very good idea to bring the National Guard in,” one resident said. However, another argued, “Absolutely not. I think that’s ridiculous. I think a show of force will do nothing to help folks.”

Despite the president’s threat to deploy the National Guard, both the governor and the mayor have resisted the idea. Some residents believe that social programs, rather than increased police presence, are the solution. “We start with social programs,” one person suggested.

As the community grapples with the recent violence, there is a sense of acceptance that crime may be an ongoing issue. “Baltimore’s beautiful, man. Even with the guns and violence, it’s part of it, man,” a resident remarked. Many believe that juveniles are responsible for much of the violence in the area.
