Five new arrests made in Louvre heist after first two charged • FRANCE 24 English

So, let’s start then with that news coming into us over the last hour or so of five new suspects being arrested over the Louve robbery. The Paris prosecutor confirming those arrests and saying at least one of them is thought to have been present at the crime scene as that heist took place comes as the prosecutor said yesterday that two men arrested at the weekend have partially admitted their involvement on the m raid on the museum 10 days ago. At this stage though, there is still no sign of the jewel themselves. So, let’s hear from the Paris prosecutor. I can confirm that these arrests were made under a warrant issued by the two magistrates appointed to the investigation. The arrests took place in Paris as well as in the greater Paris area, particularly in the Sentin suburb. All five of them together. The arrests were staggered. In fact, there were several targets identified by the investigators and they were arrested over the course of the evening. I imagine you can’t say too much, but do you have profiles of the five arrested? It’s too early to really describe them. What I can tell you is that one of them was indeed one of the investigators targets. Well, let’s talk to our reporter Emily Bolan who joins us from outside the Lou right now. Emily, bring us up to date then on the latest on what we know. Well, those five new arrests in connection to the Louv jewelry heist happened yesterday. all around 900 p.m. last night in various locations dotted around Paris. We don’t know much uh about the profile of those different people arrested, but we do know that one of them is suspected to have been part of that gang of four high vizw wearing robbers who broke into the Apollo gallery there behind me in the Louv on the 19th of October. Now, they were tracked down thanks to DNA samples that were found on site. Obviously, they left quite a lot of kits behind them when they made th their escape on their scooters. Uh, and that’s what helped to identify those people. Uh, the other four suspects are people that investigators believe have information about the heist, what happened to the jewels and how it was uh planned. So, that’s the latest on what we know about those those five arrests. And as you say, Emily, it happened all this yesterday evening, only a few hours after the Paris prosecutor that we just heard from have been talking about the other two suspects who were arrested at the weekend. Yeah, those two suspects were arrested last weekend. One of them at Shelder airport as he was about to board a flight to Algeria. Another one also in the Sanduni region. Uh now they both as you said partially admitted their involvement with the heist yesterday and they’ll be charged with organized theft and criminal conspiracy. Both of those uh charges carry sentences of 15 and 10 years respectively. But there’s still no sign of the nine items of jewelry that were taken uh from the museum worth around 88 million euros. Uh but investigators are hoping that these latest arrests might lead to a few more breakthroughs on the

After two suspects were charged with the Louvre heist, five more people have been arrested in the investigation, but the treasures remain missing. One is suspected of being part of the four-person team that robbed the Louvre, leaving one member still to be found. FRANCE 24’s Emily Boyle tells us more on what we know of the investigation so far.

  1. Algeria? You’ll never get those items back! They’re probably already melted down to support terrorism 😓 and those jewels will never be seen again sadly!

  2. all this is to make mandatory dna samples of every living person so the governments with the help of police and military can make arrests for thier precrime agenda

  3. So the usual migrant suspects, a bit disappointed seeing how complicated this was that you'd expect them to be a lighter shade.
