tl:dr

An East Londoner has bit hit with a fine of more than £1,000 after tossing a cigarette out of his car. The Romford resident, known only as Mr Farrow, was spotted by hawk-eyed environment officers flicking ash from his black Ford Fiesta on Longbridge Road, on February 27 this year.

  1. Good. The amount of people who throw their cigarette butts all over the place, littering is disgusting

  2. We and our 1536 partners store and access information on your device. Nope.

  3. Cigarette ash and butts are a source of heat for flammable material, e.g. dry grass, and are therefore a fire risk. I’ve had to put out a bin fire caused by someone chucking a cigarette butt inside without properly extinguishing it, fortunately it was a very small fire.

  4. The way the headline is written, it alludes to the ash having anything to do with it

  5. I don’t know why smokers think they can just chuck cigarette butts on the floor, dirty cunts.

  6. Headline is misleading; he was originally fined £150 but because of his repeated refusals and delays to pay the original fine (of which the original charge there was no doubt he was guilty of), the local council gradually escalated the fine to its current total of £1K.

Either way, I’ve not much sympathy for him. Discarding cigarette butts is a low brow & slob-like behaviour that harms the environment and dirties the streets.

  7. Was in a car on the motorway once with the window open, and a lit cigarette managed to fly in and burn a hole in the rear seat.

  8. Littering is a litmus test.

People who litter are usually low value people and a liability to society.

  9. He was fined a fraction of this, but he didn’t pay for reasons probably similar to why he behaved like it in the first place, being a gross twat and thinking rules don’t apply to him, so the fine increased and increased for non payment.

  10. As a smoker myself, I don’t care, I flick my cigarettes out of the window. I know I shouldn’t but I’m not going to change my habit. It is what it is.

  11. Fuck these people. As a motorcyclist I have had lit fag ends land in my lap, bounce off my helmet or my arm, so I can’t tell where they end up.

    It’s not just the littering!!

  12. This is like the one about the guy fined over 1k for close passing a cyclist and it turns out it was originally a small fine but he just kept refusing to pay it until they took him to court

  13. *ONLY REFORM CAN CUT THE MINIMUM WAGE, DESTROY THE NHS & GET IN BED WITH RUZZIA!!!*

Sorry, thought that fit the ragebait banner.

  14. It might be an incorrect assumption that this was posted to incite outrage at the fine, but nevertheless I’m heartened by the consensus that the dirty bastard deserved it.

  15. As a smoker, I always carry a portable ash tray with me and never throw cigarette butts on the floor or out of the car.

But first time I hear I could be fined for flicking ash?

  16. Cigarette butts feel like something that could quite easily be made bio degradable by cigarette companies. I know they aren’t known for exactly being ethical but still.

  17. I always check, ie have a good look around before dropping my roll up but out the window.

  18. It’s amazing to me that a lot of smokers thinks it’s acceptable to their butts on the floor in the first place.

  19. So if you’re rich, you can just do this to your hearts content.

  20. Everytime I see smokers drop their cigarette but to the floor, squish it with their shoes, and then walk of as if nothing just happened – really fucking pisses me off

  21. Whilst I agree with this in principle – Those “environmental officers” are absolute gremlins. They literally hide and wait to pounce on their prey. As recently demonstrated when a lady poured out the remainder of her coffee before binning the cup.
