**Big news in the Brussels nightlife. At the Werkhuizenkaai on the canal, nightclub LIFT will open its doors in the autumn. Their intention is clear: to become the largest discotheque in Belgium, and even in Europe. The club is pulling out all the stops for this, from big artists to an extravagant venue. “We want to bring the atmosphere of the big clubs in Ibiza and Miami to Belgium.**
With a surface area of 1360m2 and a capacity of 2,000 people, LIFT wants to raise the reputation of Brussels nightlife a little more. Founder of the discotheque Olivier Da Silva found his inspiration in Ibiza and Las Vegas, among other places. “We want to become a real big size club, LIFT has to become the reference,” says Da Silva.
The nightclub already had 20 lasers, 500 light effects and pyrotechnics, and an expensive sound system installed in the space. “This is of an unprecedented level in Belgium, and we hope to be able to bring the best quality for our partygoers,” says Phillipe De Ryck, ambassador of LIFT to BRUZZ.
In order to avoid noise nuisance, LIFT had double concrete walls installed and blinded safety doors. “It is a real soundproof bunker,” says Da Silva.
Besides the impressive venue, LIFT also wants to show off the biggest names in the music industry. The nightclub does not yet want to say which artists and DJs are on the agenda. “We keep the music very international, we don’t want to stick to one style. The more diverse, the better”, says De Ryck. The programme will only be announced this autumn.
**Safety**
The nightclub wants to keep the atmosphere as safe as possible for its partygoers and staff. During the press conference, which BRUZZ was able to attend, they frequently hammered on the safety ethics that will prevail. “One person from our team has completely focused on the safety of both staff and visitors,” says De Ryck. Everyone in the room, De Ryck emphasises, will have a radio to report any problems immediately.
“We will provide a safe zone at the entrance, should anyone feel a bit down or should something happen to them. We have absolute zero tolerance for undesirable behaviour and intimidation. This will be dealt with severely,” says De Ryck. “There are cameras everywhere to keep an eye on things.
LIFT will deploy shuttle buses that travel throughout the capital. In addition, the club is working with the company MODERN CAR to offer a luxury service for VIPs and clients of large hotel chains.
**History**
Da Silva opened a café by the canal back in 2003: the Fiesta Bar. A few years later, this was transformed into the famous party tent, the Fiesta Club. When former Brussels mayor Freddy Thielemans (PS) announced the Docks Bruxsel project in 2010, Da Sliva seized his chance. He saw the potential in the changing neighbourhood and applied for a building permit, which he eventually received in 2017.
Da Silva was among other things the driving force behind Fiesta K-Nal and Fiesta Louise in the capital, and then expanded his concept to Liege. In 2014, Da Silva launched a luxury hotel and restaurant project in Marrakesh. He then returned to Brussels.
**Top 5 in Europe**
“We have actually been ready since 2020, we are very happy that we can finally show our project to the world,” Da Silva continued. The club expects a grandiose future and wants to be among the top five in Europe three years after opening.
“Brussels should become not only the administrative but also the party capital of Europe. We dream of reaching the level of the big clubs of Ibiza, Miami, Berlin or Saint-Tropez,” concludes Da Sliva. “I am convinced that Brussels has the potential to become a reference in European nightlife”.
Someone will find his/her way into the canal…
Just can’t take a piss when it rains
I’m doubting that they will last a year.
There’s little benefit in large size. Difficult to manage, expensive in upkeep and hard to control in case of fights. Better to have different areas which can be operated independently and combined on exclusive occasions/larger events.
Doesn’t seem like a good location. Not an easy place to get by public transport or by car, so you’ll have to really plan to go there.
And also not the best area to be at night.
Dockx struggled for a long time until they got some visitors, and I feel like they still don’t have enough visitors to really be long-term viable.
They’re behind the times. In a soundproof space, selling silence would make them a fortune.
