  1. I mean that’s surely a job title to aspire to isn’t it.

Wonder what the modern equivalent would be, “Senior Beaver Co-ordinator” or something.

  2. There were only beavers on Bute from 1874 to 1890. They were introduced by John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute and apparently the richest person in the world at the time of receiving his inheritance aged just 6 months old. Unfortunately the population failed and all the beavers died out. They also tried introducing kangaroos and wallabies around the same time.

  3. Tomorrow we have a Beaver Super Moon. Make of that what you will.

  4. How is it possible to have handwriting that pretty that’s also that hard to read.

Anyway, I hope you carry on in your ancestors footsteps and keep at least one small beaver of your own.

  5. He was the Victorian Bute Beaver Keeper. There have been no more Beaver Keepers on the Isle of Bute I’d imagine, meaning he was the (Sole, Victorian) Bute Beaver Keeper.

Modern job descriptions are so boring.

  6. Soooo, chasing after beaver is in your jeans? (pun intended)

  7. What was the occupation of his son, John? I hope it’s not “Flasher”, but I can’t make it out. I see his daughters were a dairymaid and in general service (domestic), and the 9-year old was a scholar.
