Starmer ‘performed worse than Corbyn outside London’, says elections expert

  1. Someone should tell this elections expert that it’s a local council election and people are voting for local councillors. A lot of Brits are actually quite tuned into local issues, I don’t know why we keep pretending everyone solely votes for party leaders.

  2. Starmer has alienated the left and centre and isn’t quite right wing enough to appeal to the conservative floating vote.

I think that this was predictable.

  3. This was as bad of a night for Labour as it was the Tories. At the time of writing they’ve gained 40 seats, considerably less than the Lib Dems. They’ve gained councils in London which were likely to turn anyway because of Brexit. They’ve somehow managed to lose Hull of all places, which should be bread and butter Labour. Conservatives will piss the next election if this is the best Labour can do 12 years in to Tory rule.
