South Korea’s intelligence agency has indicated there is a high possibility that a summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will be held.
The National Intelligence Service reported its assessment of the situation surrounding North Korea to a parliamentary session on Tuesday.
Lawmakers quoted the agency as saying that it assesses Kim has the will for dialogue with the United States and he will engage with the country once conditions are met.
The agency also reportedly suggested that March next year, when South Korea and the US are scheduled to hold their regular joint military exercises, will be a turning point.
Trump said, on his way to Asia last month, that he was open to meeting Kim while in South Korea.
The lawmakers said the agency told them that although the US-North Korea summit did not materialize, various channels confirm that Pyongyang has been preparing behind the scenes for dialogue with the US.
