Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Monaco Preview
Maccabi Tel Aviv continued their poor EuroLeague performances last week, losing to both Panathinaikos and Crvena Zvezda, which dropped them to 2-6. While their game in Athens could be described as solid since they stayed competitive for three quarters against Europe’s strongest team, the loss to the Belgrade red-and-whites is a clear indicator that Maccabi is nowhere near the level envisioned when this roster was assembled in the summer. When you sign players like Lonnie Walker, Jeff Dowtin, and Oshae Brissett while keeping key contributors from last season such as Roman Sorkin, Jaylen Hoard, and Tamir Blatt, the expectation is to fight for a Top 10 finish, not to sit near the bottom of the standings. All of this has already put head coach Oded Kattash under heavy pressure.
When you sum it up, it’s clear that Maccabi Tel Aviv has much more individual talent than last season. The problem is that they don’t look like a team on the court — not like a group united around a common goal. Walker leads the way in isolations and rarely makes the extra pass, which clearly disrupts the offensive flow. Dowtin has had a few outstanding shooting performances, but that alone isn’t enough — especially not when Maccabi has the worst defensive rating in the EuroLeague, allowing opponents easy points at the rim and wide-open threes. That’s a recipe for disaster and the main reason why they’ve collected just two wins so far. And if Blatt hadn’t made that miracle shot against Real Madrid, their record would look even worse.
If Maccabi Tel Aviv had a nightmare double-round week in the EuroLeague, then the opposite can be said for Monaco. They faced the two biggest title favorites and beat them both. First, Vassilis Spanoulis as Monaco’s head coach recorded his third win in as many games against Olympiacos, and then his team handled Panathinaikos rather comfortably in the Principality. Mike James was brilliant and acted like a true leader on the floor. That version of James is exactly what Monaco needs to stay in the title race — which, after all, is their only goal. Last season, they reached the finals, where Fenerbahce eliminated them, and there’s no doubt that anything short of lifting the trophy this time will be considered a failure, regardless of how difficult the task may be.
To accomplish that goal, Monaco signed Nikola Mirotic during the offseason, but his performances so far have been far below expectations. The former Milano and Barcelona power forward is still searching for his form and the right way to fit into Spanoulis’ system. Daniel Theis provides huge value in the paint even when he’s not scoring, while Alpha Diallo, after Nigel Hayes-Davis left for the Phoenix Suns, has arguably become the best two-way player in the EuroLeague. Not only is Diallo a legitimate candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, but he also dropped 27 points on Olympiacos last week. Performances like that from Diallo are becoming more frequent. Matthew Strazel and Elie Okobo are still trying to find their rhythm, but overall, coach Spanoulis can be satisfied. It’s also worth noting that Monaco remains active on the market, and it’s expected that they’ll add at least one or two more players since they currently have the smallest roster in the entire EuroLeague.

Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Monaco Best Betting Tip and Prediction
Maccabi Tel Aviv has shown flashes of the individual talent they possess, but in other games, they’ve looked terrible. It’s almost impossible to predict which version of them will show up. Still, this is a must-win situation for coach Kattash to keep his job, and if the players care even a little, they’ll leave everything on the floor. For some reason, Monaco hasn’t played well in Belgrade behind closed doors over the past two seasons, and Maccabi usually knows how to deal with them. It might make more sense to expect the visitors to win at this point, but based on their performances against Real Madrid and Olympiacos, Maccabi has proven they can stay competitive until the very end against Europe’s best — and Monaco certainly belongs in that group.
