Nov. 4—AIKEN — Eighty years after his World War II service, Captain Vladimir George Taussig has been honored by the Czech Republic for his extraordinary bravery. His remarkable story has been captured by Aiken residents Deborah Taussig-Boehner and Lauren Housman in their book, “The Suitcase: The Life and Times of Captain X.”

At a recent ceremony held at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington, D.C., Taussig-Boehner accepted the Cross of State Defence, one of the nation’s highest honors, awarded posthumously to her father for exceptional courage and service during World War II.

“The Suitcase” is more than a biography that brings Cap. Taussig’s life to light — it is a literary achievement that connects local voices to global history through family letters, photographs, documents and firsthand accounts. The authors have created a deeply personal and historically significant narrative, reminding readers of the enduring power of storytelling and moral conviction.

“The Suitcase: The Life and Times of Captain X” is available locally at the Aiken Center for the Arts and the North Augusta Arts and Heritage Center, as well as through online booksellers worldwide.
