  11. It became clear a few years ago why he bought Twitter. He’s doing what newspaper owners have done for decades, but on a global scale: set out to control what people think.

    And it’s working, up to a point. I’m sure social media, controlled by the likes of Musk, Zuckerberg and Trump (“I’ll make my own social network, with blackjack and hookers”) is more than partly responsible for the worldwide swing to the right. But it hasn’t given this man baby the power he thought it would. Much of the world still doesn’t agree with him.

    I’m not sure where you go when you’re the richest man in the world, but money now bores you and what you really want is power. I imagine there will be a volcano lair involved at some point.

  16. How do you watch/read Lord of the Rings and your takeaway is that that the Hobbits needed protection from Mordor?

    I disagree with the comparison to begin with but even if you accept it – the Hobbits literally have the most idyllic way of life and in the story, it was Hobbits who destroyed Sauron.

  21. I dont agree with his analysis of LOTR but he isnt wrong they are based on the english the whole LOTR is a parallel between WW1 based on Tolkiens experiences at war.

    Where he goes wrong is the hobbits arent “helpless” more that they are removed from the troubles of middle earth to some extent and that there is a world worth saving. So yes there are parallels intended by Tolkien but not as Musk has poorly described.

  22. Can I just tell everybody that is absolutely *well* worth watching this episode at least at about 9 minutes in. There is a moment where they are talking about Epstein and Rogan just goes on one of his rants and say something like, “…as if Epstein was going to give up all his *billionaire* mates…!”. Then, you literally see him remember who he is speaking to…. it’s pretty good.

    In any case…

    If Elon had simply said, “People in deep rural England are fairly isolated from some of the Urban change occurring”, he would not have sounded quite so fuckwitted.

    I watched the whole thing. I have a super power that lets me just watch stuff to see what people say without having to have pre-join or post-join the club.

    Elon talks a lot about the “simulation argument”. I am sure that I am living in a simulation where people are trying to find out how I will react to being in a universe where the richest man around and CEO of multiple high-engineering, multi-billionaire dollar companies is essentially a 50 year old teenaged boy.
