Sinclair Asked Erika Kirk if They Could Get Jimmy Kimmel to Apologize

  1. Just so it doesn’t get lost, this is what Kimmel said “about” Charlie Kirk (which is nothing about Kirk but how his death was weaponized

    “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his monologue. “And in between the finger pointing, there was grieving on Friday. The White House flew the flags at half-staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level you can see how hard the president is taking this.”

    Kimmel then cut to a video of a reporter outside the White House offering Trump his condolences about Kirk and asking how the president has been holding up.

    “I think very good,” Trump said. “And, by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get, as you know, for about 150 years. And it’s going to be a beauty.”

    Kimmel then returned on screen and reacted to Trump’s response.

    “Yes, he’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,” Kimmel said. “Demolition, construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend.  This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish, OK?”

  5. One of the best aspects of this situation is that Sinclair learned how little power they actually have over Disney, partly because Disney learned how fast some people will boycott their corporate asses for bowing to the MAGA crowd.

    Enter naive C. Kirk to a system already in place. She’s a perfect fit to run the org, it’s not clear how her earlier life influenced the financing of her husband’s org.

    In any case if she’s not savvy enough to see thru the fake issue with Kimmel then she is fulfilling her part of the bargain.

And that republicans were spending more time making sure the shooter wasn’t one of them, they were. He didn’t say anything derogatory about Kirk or his family. manufactured and misplaced outrage.

  29. From what it sounds like from the article, Ms. Kirk didn’t demand an apology from Kimmel and didn’t feel it was necessary.

    It sounds like Sinclair wanted to find some reason to keep their perceived moral high-ground so they could continue blocking Kimmel from airing on their stations and wanted Erika Kirk to throw them a bone by demanding an apology from Kimmel.

Clearly many people see nothing wrong with what he said. What crappy journalism.

  35. This story is weird. Sinclair offered to force an apology from their (indirect) employee, under threat of termination? And even if he agreed, of what significance could that apology be to her or anyone? This is some next-level absence of emotional intelligence with these people.

    Can we just stop with this ridiculous narrative, Hollywood Reporter? It wasn’t clumsily worded. It didn’t sound insensitive. Before his completely reasonable joke **at Trump’s expense, over Trump’s lack of concern about Kirk’s death when asked about it,** Kimmel went over and above to denounce the assassination. Conservative media intentionally acted in bad faith to strip the bit of the condemnation and then portray it as a joke at Kirk’s expense. It worked. He was suspended as a result of that bad faith effort. That’s what happened.
