Government should offer a breeding program as well as hedgehog highways installed on their coin
These fuckers helped me cross the road as a kid. Horrible news.
Had one hibernate in my shed over winter, first time I ever saw that. Unfortunately disturbed it a few times. But extra happy the hedgehog made it through the winter now.
Aww :'( Little Hedgedog friends
We had a hedgehog family in the gardens in my road this winter. 3 little baby ones and a mum. Had to make them a ramp because they kept falling into a patio thingy.
I’m not surprised i can’t remember the last time i saw one.
I think it’s time to start mandating bells on all cats
I would imagine decline of insect populations and pesticides can’t be helping.
My niece is 12 and told me she’s never seen a hedgehog before. I couldn’t believe it
I blame Sega and Dr Robotnik
To quote Sonic. “That’s no good”
If you have a garden, then it’s on you to do your part. There are plenty of tips online about making gardens more hedgehog – and wildlife – friendly. A lot of them are cheap and simple to do. They *do* make a difference.
Anyone who has a garden has a responsibility to make them hedgehog friendly
It’s also well worth buying a cheap motion triggered camera. Both to monitor levels and it’s also awesome to see your efforts helping. I’ve gone from being lucky to have any hedgehogs appear to sometimes around fifteen sightings a night.
Keep throwing up all those new build developments though, who needs wildlife?
We need to normalise rewilding gardens as well.
The obvious reason can be seen from ANY TRAIN WINDOW! Take a look at what has been done to the hedgerows Cut down to an inch of their lives. This is the habitat of Hedgehogs…who’d have guessed?
Watched the progress! of this habitat destruction over last 15 years in Whitshire, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall but damn certain its not limited to them. The Farming industry is behind this destruction and needs to be named for it.
Where’s Rory Stewart when you need him
My fence stops approx. 6 inches from the ground, I leave part of my garden wild, put down cat food nightly and got my first visitor of the year last night just after dark.
Unlike the report they quote from the BHPS, they haven’t mentioned the role of vastly increased numbers of badgers and foxes play in the decline of hedgehogs, especially in rural areas.
