The keel-laying ceremony for the first Turkish National Fast Attack Craft (NFAC) was held at İstanbul Shipyard on 27 October 2025.

The NFAC programme’s conceptual design phase began in 2020 under the ‘Turkish Type Fast Attack Craft Project – Phase 1 Contract Design Agreementʼ signed between Türkiyeʼs Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) and Turkish defence company STM. A follow-on contract for the construction of a prototype vessel was signed on 9 September 2024. The first steel-cutting took place on 8 July 2025. STM first showcased the NFAC model at the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 exhibition.

The prototype is now under construction at İstanbul Denizcilik A Ş Shipyard, with STM acting as the main contractor. The programme is expected to pave the way for a class of up to ten vessels, depending on the navy’s evaluation of the prototype.

The NFAC is designed to conduct surface warfare operations in littoral waters with high speed, manoeuvrability, and a low radar cross-section. It is designed to be able to operate from concealed positions to complicate detection and identification.

The NFAC is 68 m long with a beam of 9.34 m, a draft of 2.5 m, and an approximate displacement of 700 tonnes. Propulsion is provided by four diesel engines driving steerable waterjets, supported by three diesel generators. This configuration enables a maximum speed exceeding 39 kt, a cruising speed of 20 kt, and a minimum range of 800 n miles. STM told

on 5 November it would not disclose the shipʼs maximum range at that time. The ship has a crew of 36 with seven days endurance.
