  1. At $100B per year SNAP is a significant factor in the economy. Every dollar generates between $1.50 and $1.80 in economic activity. That’s stores that won’t get sales, need staff, who pay taxes. Some stores will go out of business, in some cases depriving a community of the only local market. These are not high margin businesses. Then there’s companies like ADM and Coca Cola that will see diminished sales, and of course farmers. Dairy farmers will sell less milk and cheese.

    So this belongs here.

  2. If they let this go on they are going to get destroyed in the midterms. The ACA cuts will have smacked millions of people directly in the mouth by then.

    I’m not sure what the republican thought process is beyond slavishly serving billionaires but that’s probably not a winning strategy in elections. Especially not when the pain is large and obvious and coming from one party determined to sacrifice the poor to serve the wealthy.
