  3. So right now nobody has representation in the house of representatives in congress. Can we legally be charged federal taxes when the house is out of session for such an extended length of time? That would include income tax and tariffs.

  5. There’s pretty much zero chance they leave it closed through the holidays. If Republicans think yesterday’s election was bad wait until they see the results of a midterm election after 42 million people starve through the holidays, federal workers go three months without pay and nobody can travel through the holidays.

    May as well not even bother to run at that point.

  8. Guy, there won’t BE a federal government in 2026 if it doesn’t reopen. No one is going to work for free and we’re already past the breaking point for some. The government isn’t just ICE and every facet of the federal government has someone working for a salary behind it. How much longer are the Air Traffic Controllers going to go with out pay? What about those who run embassies? Those who process social security check? The fucking MILITARY. Everyone from IT to administration to customer service to contractors aren’t going to work too much longer with out pay. That includes law enforcement and secret service too.

  19. There is one reason I don’t think this will happen and that is air travel. The shutdown is already causing problems for air travel but it’s about to get a whole lot worse. Delays in SNAP benefits and the cancellation of ACA subsidies predominantly hurt poor and working class people whereas disruptions to air travel affect mostly corporate America and the rich.

If the files release it could possibly set them back indefinitely politically. Not sure if it’s true or not but they’re sure acting like it.

  29. If SCOTUS rules against the tariffs, trump will need to restart congress so they can formally cede tariff authority to him. Once congress is in session and Grijalva sworn in, they have the discharge partition releasing the Epstein files, and the motion to replace Johnson, who has abused his leadership responsibilities by keeping the house out of session. It should make for an interesting news cycle.

  30. Here’s the thing: the GOP ran through speakers and forced McCarthy out for not being nearly sycophantic enough (to be clear: he was a piece of shit crazy sycophant. Just not ENOUGH.) We KNOW these assholes are more than capable of putting up a “no confidence” vote whenever they want in order to dethrone someone.

    So the fact that this absolute pile of incompetent, sycophantic, pathologically lying shit continues to be speaker means that every single GOP house member is complicit in these actions or lack thereof.

    Every. Single. One.

    This isn’t Mike Johnson’s shutdown. This isn’t his decision. He doesn’t have the intellectual rigor to do any of this shit. He just has the utter lack of shame/scruples/morals to allow him to proudly continue to do what every single member of the GOP wants.

    Meanwhile the other members can hem and haw and pretend they are Super Disappointed in this bullshit. But they aren’t. They WANT this. They want you to suffer. They want everyone who isn’t them or their corporate donors to suffer.

    This is a GOP problem. NOT just Mike Johnson. People really need to wise up to that.

    The CR bill only extended to November 21.  Johnson has no intention of calling the House back to craft a new bill. Otherwise they would be in the House working on it now.   

    The whole plan was to wait until Nov 21 and then slam another CR on the Senate with no conferences or debates… then flee town over the Holidays.  

    The Democrats are right not to play this game.  The Senate has rejected Johnson’s bill 14 times already.  Grow up boy, you don’t have the votes.  The whole point of this was to lure Democrats and the Senate in once with Johnson’s tantrum, then do it again and again all through 2026 so shutdown effect the elections…  these Republicans are EVIL.

  34. Johnson opens session and he has to swear in a Democrat, which means Massie’s discharge petition gets passed, which means the Epstein files get made public, which means we all find out why Trump is terrified of their release. That is what all this is about.

    Pervert Protector Johnson and the pervert enabling House Republicans are running interference for Pervert in Chief Trump and harming Americans as a result.

    That should be the only message Dems put out. Hit that message hard for two weeks and Johnson will cave.
