  1. From the article:

California Republicans filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday seeking to block a newly approved U.S. House map that voters passed as Proposition 50 in last week’s election.

The measure, backed by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, redraws congressional boundaries in ways analysts say could help Democrats flip as many as five House seats in next year’s midterm elections. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, claims the new map illegally uses race as a factor to favor Hispanic voters and violates the Constitution’s equal protection and voting rights guarantees.

The suit was filed by the Dhillon Law Group, a California-based firm founded by Harmeet Dhillon, who now serves as assistant attorney general for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Justice.

  2. God, this admin and its cult are a bunch of crybabies. Such sensitive little snowflakes, aren’t they?

  3. Why do Republicans hate the will of the people so much? You’d almost think they were antidemocracy or something.

  4. Asking for protection of the voting rights act while trying to destroy it elsewhere is a choice

  5. Cope and seethe MAGA. You can’t gerrymander states to your advantage then cry about it when the natural reaction is for the other side to do the same. Or do cry, idc. But fuck off.

  6. A clearly stated ballot measure (not quite what you always find from Republicans), clearly presented to the voters (unlike Texas or Missouri), with clear reasoning and limits (again, unlike Texas or Missouri), openly voted on and approved by the voters… and according to Republicans, this is completely illegal.

It’s time to acknowledge Republicans have absolutely no respect or desire for law or democracy. Democracy, the will of the majority of people, and any reasonable compromise (not one where each compromise is a permanent small surrender leading to complete and permanent capitulation) is incompatible with their worldview and platform.

  7. I think they are beginning to realize the consequences of their actions.

    ahaha

  8. Wait, can I sue the GOP states for redistricting too?

  9. “The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, claims the new map illegally uses race as a factor to favor Hispanic voters and violates the Constitution’s equal protection and voting rights guarantees.”

That’s a wild claim even coming from a Republican.

  10. “Newsom’s office responded in a social media post, saying the state had not yet reviewed the lawsuit but was confident it would fail. “Good luck, losers,” the post read.”

    oop

  11. Difference between California and Texas is we voted to change our map.

  12. Too bad it was voted on by the citizens of California so I’m pretty sure that’s the will of the people you’re trying to sue.

  13. Democrats in Texas should grow balls and sue for NO VOTING!

  14. So on one hand you have red states just going straight to gerrymandering without having a vote from its populace. On the other you have blue states passing the props to be voted on and then they’re voted on unanimously and they still want to bitch and moan. It’s a joke that republicans can’t recognize this obvious double standard.

  15. California Republicans are such a deeply unserious bunch of hacks. We voted for this, it passed overwhelmingly. Get over it, losers.

  16. If Democrats win the House and Senate in 2028, they should repeal the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929. The U.S. Constitution says that for every 30,000 citizens; there should be one representative. Having 435 people be in charge of 300 million is highly regarded in 2025. California is severely underrepresented as is the lowest population state in the Union, Wyoming and other smaller red states. I bet gerrymandering wouldn’t matter then.

Equal representation per Constitution does not exist in 2025. Wyoming (only has 1) should have 19-20 representatives while California (only has 52) should have 1305 representatives. This would amount to 11,000 representatives, however. One way this could work is just to have 1 representative that is voted to be in Washington DC full time and answers to the rest of the representatives that live/stay in the state and votes on what a majority of them want.

This would keep state representatives in their state full time to serve their constituents. In Wyoming for example, they only have 1 representative. There’s no way that 1 person knows every city, every county; their individual needs, etc. are.

  17. Man are they even going to clear the bar for standing? It was a citizen vote, the people with standing made the decision, who the hell would have standing to oppose it?

  18. lol over what, it required a majority popular vote to change and redistrict, CA overwhelmingly voted for it…

  19. Love this nonsense.

So gerrymandering is only an issue when it’s enacted through the democratic process?

    I see you fascists

  20. Newsom gave the people of California a voice in the process. Texas did get a voice from Abbott.

  21. This shit is hilarious – NOW Gerrymandering IS about Race?

    Typical political doublespeak.

  22. The map passed. Fuck you Trump. You’re gonna lose the House and the Senate in 2026, then the Dems are gonna impeach you, Mike Johnson and the rest of your regime.

I just hope they also go after the ICE agents. Prosecute all those traitors.
