What is Earthshot?
Yes let’s just sweep this all under the rug. Focus on the important things like whatever Earthshot is.
I get that he would rather leave Andrew in the past, but de-princing somebody is a pretty big deal, it’s not surprising that people wanna talk about it! Also, BFFR, if his grandma had dealt with her wastrel son 30 years ago, he wouldn’t have to deal with him now.
The scandal of Royals has been entertainment since there have been Royals. This particular scandal is truly scandalous and ugly, but it’s only the most recent one, and won’t truly go away until a new one (or several) takes its place.
Imagine being surprised your uncle getting shit canned for being a pedophile is making the news. What world are these people in?
Reportedly.
He’s right to be frustrated because Andrew’s (and Fergie’s) scandals make people rethink about the need for better checks and balances against the BRF.
If true, he needs to do a lot more hustling.
One of the reasons why the Andrew scandal was talked about as long as it was and given so much attention is because, well, there was nothing else going on with the royal family. What Andrew did was awful, yes, he absolutely deserved to lose his titles, of course, and we’ve all been sitting here wondering how the Royal Lodge situation was going to play out…
But back when the Queen was still kicking, she made sure there was a bunch of other things going on so at least some of the attention was diverted from the scandal.
The truth is…there is very little going on besides the Andrew drama. Will is doing his world tour, but what else has he or the rest of The Firm done that was noteworthy in the past two years?
THIS is why The Queen kept a healthy amount of working royals moving about. THIS is why she kept even the problematic, drama causing ones around…they could divert attention so when big things happened, there would be buzz but it would be divided not long after by whatever else the rest of the working royals were doing.
And yes, they still are beating the Harry and Megan dead horse, but I think the vast majority has become numb to it because it’s frankly ridiculous. Some of the articles written about them are Disney Villian levels of ridiculousness, especially over at the Dailymail.
Now that they have trimmed down the working royals, it puts a lot of pressure on the ones still floating around to step up and do a lot more public work…but it seems the ones still there aren’t really doing much of anything.
Which is why of course everyone is going to talk about Andrew. What he did was awful, and it deserves attention, and without anything else going on, that attention is going to last much longer and be much more intense then otherwise.
So is Will doesn’t want this era defined by the Andrew drama, then he needs to either expand the number of working royals or he himself needs to do significantly more hustling. I don’t see either of those things happening, though, so we are just going to keep talking about Andrew.
I updated my favorite limerick.
**A prince from Buckingham Palace,**
**would molest little girls with his phallus,**
**he’d sweat and he’d dance,**
**while he pulled down his pants,**
**and continued his rampage of malice**
*not sure about the last line… any suggestions?*
Maybe:
– to put cream on his infected callous
– and chased every Mary and Alice
– and drank Vodka-Red-Bulls from a chalice (his favorite drink)
Prince Andrew was able to be the person he is because of the British royal family. They covered up for him for decades.
And now they’re pretending that they’re actually holding him accountable because they’re worried the public is going to look at the money. They only stopped openly protecting him once they thought their own lives could be affected.
William is a huge part of that because he is an heir and is mainly concerned with protecting his public image. He should be spearheading more accountability in that family, not whining because the public is rightfully concerned. Even now, what steps are being taken to make sure Andrew isn’t still victimizing women?
At some point the royals will get a clue that this isn’t about them getting bad pr. Their public images are not the real concern and they are not the victims.
He can’t honestly expect decades of Granny and the Gang running cover for Uncle Perv finally reaching critical mass to not overshadow his current pet projects. Seriously? If not for Lownie’s book and Epstein they’d still all be pretending there’s ‘nothing to see here.’
Prince William cannot have it both ways. The public who funds the Royal Family, at least in part, is interested in what is going on for a plethora of reasons, both serious & trivial.
If his goal is more privacy & to work less, then more focus will be placed upon those family members who are making the headlines by either their public appearances, or by their scandals.
Prince William cannot simply show up to a series of events that hasn’t been well publicized (you know, by making appearances & getting the word out) and expect the immediate spotlight because he has decided to work. It is extremely off putting to me that after the enormity of what his uncle has done, that Prince William’s wish is simply that people forget about his uncle’s scandal, move on, & pay attention to one of his few attempts at work this year.
In some ways he is just as tone deaf as the older royals, but at least most of the previous generations made scores of public appearances per year, even when they didn’t want to because they understood and respected what the job entailed, even if they didn’t like it. I only see Prince William (& his wife) constantly trying to find reasons/ways to work as little as possible, while fully enjoying all of the perks. (What number house are they on now?)
His legacy includes his neglect as a landlord, questionable financial dealings in the Dutchy of Cornwall, petty media games and Andrew. He has plenty of opportunity to speak directly to these issues instead of trying to cover up/deflect from his personal questionable conduct. I’m cheering for Will and Kate because if they stop fretting about being good monarchs and their optics and more about being good people, they really could do amazing things to help people. I am not saying they are bad people but I hope that if they are serious about making the monarchy modern, they encourage transparency and that includes their relationship with the media. Stop using “sources” to do your dirty work. It’s hard to trust people (ie head of state) who play petty, drama stirring games and hide behind royal privilege and intermediaries to do your dirty work. But I’m cheering for them!
