I enjoy going to the theatres a lot, but I haven’t been since the start of this year because it just feels like there’s hasn’t been much new, good and original content. Nothing that has created hype either. I miss the Barbenheimer + MI summer, I looked forward to that for weeks
Please don’t go under AMC, I just joined A-List!!! You have my $25 a month, WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED?
Jurassic was so bad.
Let’s go to the movies, guys!
Yeah, okay, it’s more expensive now than every before and yes people have absolutely no etiquette and their attitude and hygiene stink. Whatever. But don’t you want to go see the 14th installment of a franchise that they’ve rung every bit of life out and is now a rehashed, crap, storyline that makes no sense?
Go to your local cinema today!
All the films I watched were good, but not great. And knowing movies will be up on VOD and streaming give folks choices and are way more selective these days. Movie houses will probably revert to the pre-multiplex model to survive. Don’t need to show them all day long every day.
I go infrequently, mainly to take my kids for blockbusters, and it’s a hugely expensive affair each time. Now that they’re leaving home, I shall be happy to watch far better streaming options on my large screen at home.
Theaters are too bloody expensive.
its odd. I have disposable money, but just can’t stomach forking over $50 for me and my family to see a matinee. at night? we are close to $70 for something that will be streaming on an app within weeks and that is stopping at Walgreens for snacks and drink to sneak in. the movie-going model is broken and unsustainable. Cinema needs to be treated with exclusivity. Start a six-month window to streaming or something. I really dont see how movie theaters will be around in 2 or 3 years. sucks but the powers that be did this.
I can either buy groceries or watch a movie. Lower concessions and ticket costs.
AMC was in the red pre pandemic this isn’t to be unexpected they have billions in debt I believe.
The landscape has changed vastly since then too – I’d say whilst that is a factor – AMC benefited vastly during the pandemic with the ‘apes’ on Reddit that bought the stock and saw it hit record highs – the company made money from this, diluted the share to reduce debts and debt repayment values.. yet retail investors bought again on the premise of what we saw with GameStop of causing the companies shorting to go broke.. (the still think this.. what happened with GS was very very rare and a huge combination of factors Reddit notwithstanding) – if this didn’t happen arguably AMC would have headed to bankruptcy like Regal/Cineworld
Adding more ads didn’t bring in droves of more customers. Shocked!
IT COSTS OVER $100 TO TAKE OUT A FAMILY OF FOUR!!!
Maybe movie studios should throttle back streaming releases of new films. Go back to the original 3 to 5 month window of releasing on blue ray/streaming services, pre covid, and maybe that might boost ticket sales a little bit
FML I’m gonna use A-list until they drag me out of my local amc before they tear it down
No one has money to be paying for these movies let alone concessions rather just make a good meal at home and watch it there where it is cheaper
Who wants to pay 15 bucks for a teenager to talk behind them the whole movie?
I’m not going to any theater that charges a service fee on a movie ticket. Period.
“We need to charge more” -AMC execs probably
They really need to invest in these theaters which is hard to say when they are losing money. But their theaters are so run down, and they leave the sound too low now also.
I went to Tinseltown in Jacksonville and it was simply amazing. Power reclining seats, more space between the seats, a wall behind your seat that goes up about 4ft, so you don’t even see any of the levels of people that are behind or in front of you. It really was amazing and I would go way more if we had something like that in my area. But my AMC hasn’t been refurbished since at least 2004 when I worked there and they added two imax screens.
I totally forgot Jurassic World Rebirth existed
And…. They are still raising pop corn prices
Theater etiquette is at an all time low. People simply don’t have the attention span to sit through a 2 hour film without checking their phones at high brightness and scrolling on tik tok. Tickets are 20 and up now and that’s not even counting imax which is much better experience. Also people especially teens and kids now have other outlets like twitch, TikTok, and Netflix for entertainment. I don’t see how movie theaters will survive in the next few years.
This is a joint issues between studios and theaters. Studios need to make better films and theaters need to improve the viewing experience while making it more affordable. Studios (especially WB) have been improving their output, but they still got a ways to go. I’ve also been routinely disappointed with large chain theaters. Revival houses and specialty theaters are creating great experiences, but they are usually showing films that only attract niche audiences. AMC and Regal especially have a lot of work to do to entice American audiences back.
When theaters don’t value the experience they are creating, neither do audiences, and it turns into a jungle gym for kids and people on their phones. Respect the value and experience, and audiences will too.
It’s not even about the price for me. Phones have ruined everything. First theater that announces a partnership with Yondr or something similar will see me going there all the time.
Maybe I don’t understand business economics but if you’re not getting enough customers because of the very vocalized high pricing issues… wouldn’t you lower your prices substantially, and instead of 4 or 5 people spending a lot of money you would get 40-50 people spending a bit less?
They would inherently buy more snacks with the saved money, they would go to the movies more, like what am I missing in the lower your prices scenario?
At worst you continue to post losses and miss earnings goals so nothing changes.
At best, we’re all back to the movies.
Imma be honest, I hope AMC doesn’t go under. I pay $25 for A list and work right across the street from a theater. Highlight of my day is seeing a new movie after work. Saw chainsaw man twice this week alone and love it.
I’ve stopped going because people are insanely disrespectful now and it’s not even worth the risk.
Can someone break down this debt for me? This seems like shockingly poor management.
I don’t wanna pay $30 for a ticket per family member where some 20 year-old is checking their cell phone the whole time during the movie and some fat lady kicks her shoes off, brings a blanket, and is treating the place like her own goddamn living room.
It was a long time ago but I hated working for AMC
I try to go to my amc as often as possible and also have A-List always get concessions too. Fuck streaming. I will continue to support theaters until they tear them all down. I do the same with shopping malls.
I hate how the world I grew up in is slowly disappearing. Early 2000s was the best era ever. Even in just a little over a decade it has changed so much. Smartphones changed the world for the worst
My wife and a couple of our grandkids went to go see Sinners in this movie theater that had nice seating with folding tables and 2 different restaurants in the building. You could order at your seat and they brought it to you.
THAT experience was worth the money. I can’t see going to a regular theatre nowadays.
I’d go to the movies every weekend if I could afford to. The death of the LA film industry wiped me out financially.
All of the AMC theaters around here are a bad experience. Dim projectors, lousy sound, just unpleasant. The Regal theaters around here are much more pleasant. Decent projection and sound. Like AMC used to be.
I like updated seats and food, that is a separator to staying home.
I’m seeing Badlands tho.
One of my good friends runs one of the highest visibility AMC locations. He’s worked for AMC his life since being a teenager. Really hoping AMC sticks around.
Their whole thing is making moviegoing an experience vs watching at home. They just need good movies to show.
I stopped going to theaters because, without subtitles, I can’t understand what is being said. Even with the massive speaker system, the dialogue track is nearly always obscured to the point of not being able to follow conversations.
Ahhh man I love a list if we lose AMC I’m going to be so sad. Although hopefully parts of these losses are because they’ve been upgrading so many theaters. Both theaters by me upgrades to laser protectors and one added a IMAX and the other is adding Dolby so both theaters will have both options soon
I would’ve gladly given them money for the Prey/Predator Badlands double feature but there’s no showings in my city.
I have young kids so that’s the main issue, but it never even crosses my mind to go to an adult movie with my wife. We do other things but never a movie. We take the kids maybe 3x a year but its just so much easier to wait for movies for home
Ceo 30 million paycheck per year to lose 300 per quarter
The last time I went there was literally LITERALLY 35 minutes of ads AT THE START TIME. I told the manager there that I’m never coming back if they keep doing that.
It was nearly a 2 hour movie, I get there 15 minutes early (which is when the ads also play). That’s almost 3 hours, it’s 45 minutes of ads ffs!
That’s why I stopped going.
They can only show what’s being offered. I just think half the movies being released look like they suck. And if I see one that looks good, I put it on the to-do and it’s gone from the theater before I get to it.
Showcase Cinema owned the 3 closest movie theaters to me and they announced last week they’re closing all of them.
There will literally be a drive in closer to me than a normal theater.
Cinemas are struggling and $8 packs of peanut butter cups aren’t gonna save em.
