  1. Cancel the whole thing tbh. good intentions but its just a scam now, unless you need a daily trip to the hospital you can use the bus or a taxi

  2. There are some interesting figures for Motability claims by PIP condition. Not sure funding vehicles for people with alcohol and drug misuse is the wisest idea, but I’m not an expert.

Anxiety and depressive disorders – mixed 32160

    ADHD / ADD 9090

    Personality disorder 5120

    Asthma 4870

Anxiety disorders – Other / type not known 2600

    Alcohol misuse 770

    Migraine 720

    dyslexia 320

    Drug misuse 220

  3. As a person with adhd- reasonable call. I hope it happens.

That’s probably one of the reasons why *actual* people who suffer from adhd can’t get assessed, assholes clog up the system for free benefits.

  4. I used to work for Motability in their call centre for my sins.

Most of my day was spent dealing with the “anxiety and depression” brigade trying to get whatever freebies they could.

    A couple of examples:

    – “my car is in for repairs so I can’t go to the supermarket, the only one that will deliver is more expensive than my usual shop – if I send you the receipt will you reimburse me?”

    – “my family member drove my car to Spain and is now too ill to drive it back, will you pay for a flight and a hotel in Alicante so I can go and get it?”

When you obviously refused, they pull the mental ‘elf card in a split second, threaten suicide or violence. There has to be a forum where they all share tips because they’d often use the exact trigger phrases we had on a list internally to try and move things along.

  5. I have ADHD and I have my own car. I can walk and jog and take public transportation just like others.

I know I’m different, some help (adjustments) is good but PIP motability scheme … I don’t actually think it helps (of course extra money fall from the sky is good ).

In fact I avoid long drives, I get nervous when the route is over 45 minutes. I want to take public transport when possible (but that’s impossible or impractical to spend 4 hrs+ a day when I need to go the office). Why should gov sponsor them (or me) a car.

  6. This doesn’t really make any sense and sounds like bullshit sabre rattling/pitchfork material…

PIP is assessed on your actual issues – not your condition – you could have cancer and AIDS and still not qualify for PIP and you could have no obviously identified condition and still technically get PIP

Can you walk/interact with people/look after yourself – those sorts of questions are what’s asked – basic PIP is help for ‘living’ with motability coming from the secondary component (which originated as taxi tokens and relates to inability to get around)

I think some people believe there’s just some “you have X – PIP granted” system going on – absolutely not the case whatsoever…

Also – could we perhaps stop shitting on the worst-off members of society in the hope that it will magically fix a system which is fundamentally broke/skint and bereft of ANYONE interesed in actually fixing that????

  7. Agree. The country can’t afford new cars for all we are broke.

  8. Wait, I just got diagnosed with ADHD. I can get a car? Sweet

  9. I have severe unmedicated ADHD. I’ve never thought the government should give me a car.

  10. Asking honestly, without judgement but trying to understand, how does a motability scheme help someone with asthma or migraines?

  11. Tennis elbow, you can claim for tennis elbow. And a bigger vehicle because you struggle to get in and out of the vehicle.
I feel a twitch in my elbow better make an appointment.

  12. The company has something insane like £1+billion cash and £4+billion in a fleet of cars. The government paid for this and yet the truly disabled own nothing and can have it taken away at the drop of a hat?

The fact that this has been exacerbated by people with tennis elbow having a BMW is the cherry on top.

  13. I know an adult with ADHD who has a blue disabled pass. It’s ridiculous. They’re a professional who works in the NHS. Absolutely no need for this kind of diagnosis and benefits.

  14. Mental health conditions should not qualify for mobility schemes.

Only people who should be on these are people with GENUINE mobility issues.

  15. I’m not keen on stripping benefits at all, but movability does feel like a con to prop up the car industry. I understand some people do have a genuine need, but didn’t they used to just give grants to people to modify a car to make it drive able for their condition? It feels like there should be a fair middle ground

  16. I’m baffled how someone with ADHD as the only condition would even be awarded higher rate mobility. I have ADHD and I haven’t applied for PIP. I understand how debilitating it can be. I understand the process of PIP and the forms but i do not see how someone could achieve the points needed.

  17. Motability should surely be for adapted vehicles, presumably that was the intended point of the scheme, not to prop up a quarter of the car industry with government funds?

  18. They need to separate mental heath, and ADHD, autism and keep physical disabilities to another part.

If you talk to people with physical disabilities they actually get turned down a lot more because of the can you walk 50m? Even if you say no I can’t they will use any excuse to prove that wrong even if you own a car. But someone with mental health will say I can’t leave the house without someone with me or I’m too scared to leave the house will get more points.

  19. This is a distraction. We need more homes, more jobs, and a solution to illegal immigration. Don’t let the government distract you with this bread crumb bullshit.

  20. I really don’t understand how people get PIP. I’ve filled out the forms, you have to be practically useless on a daily basis to get enough points to qualify.

    Either that or a liar.

  21. Wait I can get pip for my ADHD and asthma?
    The fuck?
    .

  22. Wasn’t there a lady on here a few weeks back who said that her son qualified because of disabilities and that she still was able to order a taxi to drop and pick him up from school from the local council because she had anxiety and couldn’t drive in rush hour traffic.

  23. How does this even work? And how have so many people got away with it – to turn it into another mini scandal of sorts?

  24. I have ADHD and I do not really see why we would need PIP, to be fair. Meds on the NHS is all I wanted and they eventually did that, which I pay for through taxes.

  25. Ah yes, because people with ADHD already have absolutely zero support as it is so this will help.
