  1. >The President said so in an interview with a media outlet in that country. “We are also buying them ships to patrol the coasts,” he added. The State may not pay until it receives the vessels.

    >[**Javier Milei**](https://www.infobae.com/politica/2025/11/04/javier-milei-retoma-la-agenda-internacional-y-viaja-a-estados-unidos-pero-no-se-vera-con-donald-trump/) **confirmed that Argentina is in the process of purchasing submarines and patrol vessels from France** . This process has been circulating for several months, and progress has been reported recently. However, no deadline has been set for the signing of the agreement between the two governments.

    >The President confirmed this in an interview with the French media outlet *Public Sénat* . “We have just established an excellent relationship with France. **We are buying submarines and also purchasing ships to patrol the coasts** ,” he explained when asked about the relationship with the French president, Emmanuel Macron.

    >Speaking on condition of strict confidentiality, two official sources confirmed recent contacts aimed at reaching an agreement. “ **Argentina needs to recover its Navy’s submarine capabilities** , and France is one of the leading countries in this type of technology,” stated a source linked to the military.

    >Given the current budget constraints and the high interest rates the country faces when borrowing abroad, the government acknowledges that the entire process for acquiring submarines depended on France agreeing to manufacture the units and Argentina paying once they were completed.

    >The novel aspect of the negotiations is that **France is reportedly close to agreeing to a payment plan that would allow the Argentine government to defer payment for the submarines until they are completed in France.** This would be **a payment upon delivery** , something highly unusual in this sector.

    >The 2025 Budget that had been announced at the end of last year (and which was ultimately not approved) enabled the taking of a multi-year loan of 2.31 billion dollars for “Submarine Recovery”, the need to use similar funds for the purchase of submarines would no longer be such and would be postponed to later.

    >**This, too, can only be explained by the robust relationship that Milei and Macron forged in the last year** . Last November, the French president visited his counterpart at the Casa Rosada and they discussed key issues for bilateral cooperation in defense, technology, innovation, and energy. Around that time, the Ministry of Defense, then headed by Luis Petri, sent a letter of intent to the French company **Naval Group** for the acquisition of three units of the **upgraded Scorpene submarine** .

    >Six months later, the Argentine traveled to Paris for a multilateral event organized by Macron and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with him to establish a Strategic Alliance on Strategic Minerals. In that context, Petri met with his French counterpart, Sébastien Lercornu, who has been the Prime Minister of France since September of this year. There, further progress was reportedly made in these negotiations. The key figures behind these efforts are the Minister of Defense, **Luis Petri** , and the Argentine Ambassador to France, **Ian Sielecki** . Both participated in joint activities in France on four occasions.

  2. Getting $40 billion bailout from the US taxpayers, and then buying French submarines. Art of the deal 😂

  3. Why though, his whole thing is cutting government bloat

  4. I guess that’s in exchange for France accepting the Mercosur deal.

  5. > a payment plan that would allow the Argentine government to defer payment for the submarines until they are completed in France. This would be a payment upon delivery , something highly unusual in this sector.

Ok, so we won’t be payed. I don’t see the point.

Also, it is questionable to sell attack submarines to a country who threathen our allies over the Faklands. Mentioning UK and submarines in the same sentence is touchy since the AUKUS backstabbing, but is not a reason to sell this kind of weapons to hostile countries.

  6. After the failed experience with the Exocet missiles during the Malvinas’ War, one would think the Argentinians learnt the lesson of buying French.

  7. Tension that we do not need. Argentina will just abuse its new naval power. And the first thing on the list – the Falkland Islands.

Perhaps fixing their country, maturing and stabilising society should come before an invasion of a European country.

  8. good luck affording those things when your economy is still struggling to stabilize

  9. Ukraine should buy a couple submarines from Sweden…after things calm down over there.

  10. Wow the trump must be pissed. Giving Argentina billions of free bailout only to have them backstab him by selling soybeans to China a s now buying French submarine. Hope trump gets a heart attack from this and become fully paralyzed from this and had to step down and let JD Vance take over.

  11. These better not be as deadly as those Exocet-equipped Super Etendards…

  12. People on here really think Argentina is going to go to war with UK over some rocky islands? Lol

  13. mmmmm i think its an step in the right direction

but we need nukes so buenos aires doesnt turn into ashes if we dare to attack the islands xD

  14. I guess those old Nazi subs are finally breaking down, I’m sure it’s pretty hard to find parts for them…

  15. Lol UK should rocket it when it’s being sent over

  16. So in a round about way, American tax payers are buying French subs. Nice.

  17. So 20billions rescue and now are going to buy submarines?

  18. Any fellow Brit’s getting into a fit over this needs to get a grip.

France helped us out last time, if Argentina were insane and suicidal enough the French would likely give us the intel again.

Besides Britain has increased its strength and presence in Falklands far more than Argentina has who have more lost strength than gained strength.

If you are worried about the Falklands (which is ridiculous) then write to your local mp and complain about our defence.

Don’t give a great Ally like France shit over a good bit of business, since when did we of all countries take a good bit of business as personal?

  19. Didn’t Milei borrow 20 billion dollars from the US recently?

  20. That’d be a terrible blunder to our alliances in Europe. I hope we don’t.
