Larry Ellison, co-founder and chief technology officer of Oracle Corporation, became the world’s richest man on Wednesday, surpassing Tesla CEO Elon Musk. With this rise, Ellison made history by becoming the first Jewish billionaire to top the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Ellison’s surprise jump in fortune came after a better-than-expected earnings report from Oracle, which sent the company’s stock price soaring. His net worth increased by $89 billion in a single day, the largest daily gain ever recorded on the Bloomberg list. However, by the end of the day, Musk had reclaimed the top spot, surpassing Ellison by just $XNUMX billion.

At 81, Larry Ellison has been one of the most influential entrepreneurs in the technology sector for years. He co-founded Oracle in 1977 and is now its largest shareholder. Although he maintains a more reserved profile than other billionaires, he has consistently been among the ten richest people in the world for more than a decade.

Raised in a Reform Jewish home by his adoptive parents in Chicago, Ellison has had a complex relationship with his Jewish identity. He has said that he refused to perform his bar mitzvah because it conflicted with his baseball practice. However, over the years he has been a major donor to Israeli organizations, including the group Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces (FIDF).

Ellison’s fleeting leadership reflects the fierce competition among the tech titans that dominate the global economy. Currently, according to Bloomberg, Ellison has an estimated fortune of $383.200 billion, just shy of Musk’s $384.200 billion.
