I wonder what the Linux percentage would be if you excluded dual-boot systems.
Is this including the SteamDeck?
Nice to see it grow, I’m not changing to Linux until I can play games with the most common anti-cheats though.
Only 97% more to go for Linux until total world domination! You can do it! 😭
From reading all the shit here on Reddit you would think everyone and their mother and goldfish were switching to Linux and abandoning Windows.
Another one of those classic “internet echo-chamber circle-jerking” horse shit.
I have a Windows 10 laptop that can’t upgrade to Windows 11… any suggestions for which OS/distro I should move it over to?
Is SteamOS generally a good one or… should I pick something else?
Windows dropping across the mid 90s is pretty nuts. At this rate (I know I know, I’m basically begging for the XKCD comic to be posted) we’ll see Windows in the sub 90s by 2028 or 2030.
Valve is VERY responsible for this due to the Proton layer in Steam. Its so good I’ve been able to run every release title I’ve bought with zeroes issues. Maybe I have to add the gamemode setting to get it to not give me a black screen.
For Microsoft’s part, I switched to Linux over a year ago because I was really unhappy with the direction it was going. More locked in to the cloud, more forced updates, just enshitification. I went to Mint and never looked back.
Now do it with spec minimums that aren’t garbage computers…
I hope this trend doesn’t continue. If Linux gets too mainstream, say 5%, I have to switch. Maybe FreeBSD?
2026 is the year of the linux desktop.
Is this beautifully presented Data? Cool info but I miss when the sub was sick communication design.
Wooow look how dangerous Linux is becoming!
More salient than “over 3%” is “nearly tripled in 5 years”.
Admittedly from next to nothing, to next to nothing.
This is why MS can get away with enshitifying Windows so much.
Lol, because mobile devices use emulators on top of Linux. The chart makes it look like it’s competing with laptop/desktop platforms.
It also disregards the macos numbers being hobbled by the very few native releases available.
So yeah, this chart compares apples to oranges to carrots. Not a great dataviz.
I suspect this has alot to do with Windows11 not supporting many “old” devices.
I’m in that 2% of Mac users
Xplane 11 on steam 🥀🥀
Damn I guess the guy who told me Linux was good for gaming wasn’t wrong, he was just 30 years early

All my homies hate Windows 11
Curious if anyone has any insights, but the Linux bump has got to be from Steam Decks right?
2026 will be the year of the Linux Desktop, undoubtedly!
Honestly thought MacOS was higher. Maybe it’s just that Mac users are so evangelical about their preference they seem like a larger group.
I’m so surprised to see Linux actually outpacing MacOS. Why is Steam so unpopular with Mac users?
[If these trends continue… eeeyyyyy](https://youtu.be/e6LOWKVq5sQ?si=WONdKJDJZrsa35zB)
Windows PoV: 2% down, margin of error
Linux PoV: UP BY 50% IN A YEAR, WHEEEEEEE
