We’re fucked if we can’t start moving to more renewable energy sources.
Don’t even need to read the article to know the objections are bollocks.
That Sinn Fein TD claiming that solar panels cause social issues. Thats definitely a new one
“While it is acknowledged that the use of renewable energy is the way forward for this country, we cannot ignore the fact that this type of development can in itself have a negative impact on the local environment if a location is not chosen with the utmost care, and if a long-term view is not taken of both the short-term and medium-term impacts.”
We’re ok with renewable energy as long as it doesn’t impact us in any shape or form…
Rabble rabble rabble!!!!!
“These developments will put pressure on the viability of the neighbouring farms.”
Anyone know how a solar farm impacts the viability of neighbouring farms?
Eat the NIMBYs
The real reason… farm subsidies, that juicy european CAP cheques they get each month.
If these solar farms catch on more farmland will be utilised for solar which in the longterm will reduce the farm subsidy.
“Sure how am I gonna get any sun with them yokes up the road taking it all?”
“Another local said: “This development is being planned in a pastoral landscape of great natural beauty which up to now has been spared from the excesses of sprawling urbanisation and industrialisation.”
It’s a field
Anyone else getting the impression that Sinn Fein are massive luddites? They appear very weak (even adversarial) on environmentalism and climate change. Government aren’t much better but at least they’ve cottoned on that every single decision they make has an environmental cost to it.
Solar farms and associated projects like battery storage systems are going to be a big feature in rural Ireland in the coming years. I hope this doesn’t become a trend.
I truly despise these NIMBY scum. What a load of contrived and utter nonsense behind their petty “objections”.
Jesus wept.
If they just built it and said nothing the locals probably wouldn’t even know it was there.
Ok no power then. Deal?
“This development is being planned in a pastoral landscape of great natural beauty which up to now has been spared from the excesses of sprawling urbanisation and industrialisation.”
That sounds like someone fed the guy his line. Another farmer objected because it could devalue neighbouring fields?! Wtf?!
But this is the way…
1) Object to proposed renewable energy source
2) Spend more money on energy that instead has to be derived from nonrenewable sources
3) Complain about cost of energy
4) Return to step 1
If you have an asset – and the value of that asset is being threatened – obviously you will object to the devaluation of said asset. These complaints I can understand.
Some of the other submissions are absolute rubbish. Complaints about CCTV causing crime? Ultimately its a pretty good plan. Few more brown envelopes needed to get it through though.
It’s all well and good to host renewables but whats the business plan? All that energy for export on a connected grid? Whats the minimum price per kw/h? Tax benefits apply. Who pays and who benefits? Is it energetic corporatism is, or is it owned by the community to service their needs and benefit them like some community power projects?
Not as bad as the protest against one, I think it was American, who claimed that the solar panels would soak up all the sun
There’s no pleasing this country. We object to new housing developments when there’s a lack of supply and we reject alternative energy sources when energy prices are rising.
All planning objections should come with a mandatory 100 mile walk.
If you do the walk, your objection is upheld otherwise its tossed in the bin.
Please just let us have nice things, c’mon, we deserve it
I live abroad and we have about 60-70 wind turbines within a 20km radius and you know what?
Nobody gives a shit about them because as long as they’re working they keep the local energy costs down.
They’ve just launched one near here in Wicklow. The sky has not caved in, nor has society collapsed.
Went to the local community talk on this in Sir Rowlands Pub. Claims were made that the solar farm was under the shannon flight path and that the reflection of the sun light would bring down airliners over Bansha.
Claims were also made that washing the SP would pollute the local land. But there’s zero concern of the slurry run off gather at the opposite side of the hill.
All these posters popped up “neighbours against solar farms” and “hello rural crime” between Thomastown cross and Bansha village. Nobody knows who funded them and where they came from. Were marked “Neighbours against solar farms” no contact no address”
Also claims made that the SP would tear up local wildlife. True to an extent. But the same fuckers claiming this were farmers that shred hedge grows every other week.
Was very far right leaning shite. If you go onto Tipp coco website you’ll see the registration of attendance names of people who were at the pub used as an objection.
Local horse breeder organised for pre printed names and addressed letters (as in written in your name) to be delivered to every house for the names person to sign and submit. Delivered by his own stable hands. Some neighbours refused to sign but then got letter of reciepts for €20 in the post saying their objection was noted. Outrageous!

First it was the wind turbines, now these are what people are objecting to.
