Return to work is mainly just so the middle management (who make more money than the people doing the actual work for some reason) can feel important and actually have something to do. If productivity is fine there’s absolutely no reason for those people to have to come in
Not surprised, as from what I’ve heard from staff there was _a lot_ of anger at how it was handled. Including from management at a relatively high level.
Classic case of top-down decision makers being at odds with the rest of their organisation.
Great to see this. There is no evidence base for AIB forcing return to office apart from the wants of senior management, not actual requirements, and is clearly not balanced with the wants of their workforce.
Despite the rhetoric that it’s middle management that is driving this, this is very likely being driven at a much higher level to see who will take themselves out of the equation before they have to pay redundancy to in the next couple of years as the economy slows down.
All this is to say, join a union folks!

It’s time to draw the battle lines in the sand over hybrid and remote work and defend the only good thing to come out of the COVID pandemic.
The unions like to go on about how they gave us the eight hour day and the weekend.
Well COVID gave us WFH but it’s up to the unions to defend it and enshrine it as a right.

The ability to work fully remote has absolutely changed my life for the better. 3 hours a day back to myself. Less stress. Less fatigue. Higher morale.
Having contracted in AIB before Covid I know exactly what their management is like…and this decision doesn’t surprise me at all. They don’t want their expensive offices and herman miller office chairs going to waste.
I’m torn between the worker getting the support they need, but also AIB being shite fucks that can barely run a bank
It’s most certainly not middle management who wanted this. It’s being very much driven by the leadership team. They don’t trust staff clearly and it’s a obvious attempt to force people out
Important that the workers hit back, especially as this was the first major change the senior management suggested since returning to private ownership
When cash is gone so are they.
If you can do your job from home and are able too do so then you should be giving the choice. What if the businesses that want workers back into the office had to pay for their workers time commuting to work but also fuel?
