  1. Nudity influence people differently. I once moved my couch because of nudity. The favorite spot in the corner had the prime view of the TV set, and it was also facing the north side windows of the apartment.

On the opposite of the street a man moved in. A chubby fellow that wanted to make a life change and excersize. So he aquired a treadmill and started walking/jogging……. In the nude. A fat man with every body part flopping around spoiled my TV time. Pulling the curtain was the first idea, but it was either keep them closed all the time or risking catching a glance at something I did not want to see.

I moved the couch so any view out the window was in a different direction.

As a Dane I have no problem with nude people on the beach. Most of the time its to cold for that in Denmark anyway.

  2. There’s a very lax attitude towards nudity there. In most public facilities like swimming pools, there will be communal showers (separate for men and women afaik) and the vast majority of people will shower naked.

During a festival, I went to take a shower and it felt like I was acting in a gay porn movie, cause little skinny white boy enters the shower room and there’s three huge black men, all in their birthday suits.

  4. It’s only six eu countries, was disappointed to not see a comparison to other nordic countries as I feel the laxness concerning nudity is a shared phenomenon

  5. Danes have the biggest gardens obviously.

The general results of the various might be influenced by participants from other cultures though

  6. Nobody sees the beautyfull woman in the front by the article?

  7. I had a friend from university who moved to Denmark. Before he left he was just like most of us Brits, uncomfortable in his own skin with a general sense of self-loathing. After he moved he suddenly became happier, calmly confident in himself and would say things like “I don’t know why you’re so ashamed of yourself and nakedness Opening-Tea-257, it’s just a body, we’ve all got one”.

    Disgusting.

  8. I tried this once. It’s so incredibly liberating. Since then, I have had every understanding for nudists.

  9. My 60-something Swedish teacher bragged that her husband-to-be, who was American, was so shocked and intrigued by how she casually dropped trou at the beach, that he instantly fell in love.

  10. not surprised at all tbh sauna culture and being comfortable with nudity just seems to go hand in hand in those northern countries

  11. For those curious, the original YouGov polling can be found here: https://yougov.co.uk/society/articles/53316-what-do-europeans-think-of-public-nudity, which is worth a look at.

Something that was really surprising to me, was that the Germans seemed to have basically the exact same views on #freethenipple as Brits do, being much more restrictive than the other four countries polled (I think this is daft). I’d have expected France to be a lot more liberal on this as well, I have to say. Also kinda surprised that it’s not considered socially acceptable at a park in Germany- rather conflicts with what I’d heard about the culture there. Put it this way, am incredibly amused by the story of a German friend who went to a UK sauna and almost ended up exposing herself, though thankfully realised this before taking her towel off upon entering. For context, she’s evangelical with some conservative views on sex, and I was under the impression that general indifference to nudity was rather the norm there, provided you don’t e.g. do it on a high street, or strip off entirely in the frozen section in a supermarket during a heatwave etc.

Fwiw, I’m a never nude (I don’t even take my top off in public, as a cis man), find bare butts really gross to look at, and think genitals are even worse, although think that’s a me problem, and think it should be socially acceptable (certainly, caring about anyone being shirtless is bizzare, and the double standards here are openly sexist tbh). Nudity looks bad, but it’s not sexuality, and it’s less bad than somebody wearing clothing supporting a political party with bad ideas that nonetheless have their place in a democracy, so I guess I can’t really see an in principle reason to care much about nudity, beyond “ew that looks bad”.

  12. Any free versions? My data is worth 30€ a year to each corporation which collects it, I’m not paying.

  13. In Island you had better shower naked or you’re breaking the law.
