I’ve been struggling with how to mark two decades of blogging about the history and memory of the Civil War. Thankfully, my good friend, fellow historian and blogger Chris Mackowski came to my rescue with an unexpected offer to interview me about this milestone.

I can’t think of a better way to share my thoughts about everything that has transpired and that I have experienced than in conversation with a friend and colleague.

There was a lot of ground to cover, but we managed to discuss a wide range of topics.

A heartfelt thanks to all of you who have shared this journey with me. I remain committed to this endeavor, in large part, because I continue to learn from all of you. As I shared during our conversation, the most rewarding experiences over the course of my career have been the opportunities to meet and interact with people, who share my deep interest in this history.

All of this has been made possible by my decision twenty years ago to write a blog post.
