The elderly people more likely to suffer from the cost of living issues are more likely to be “I’ve voted Labour my whole life” people who are less likely to have big retirement capital. 75 year old Charles from Christchurch in his 800k bungalow can absorb the shock and hes the sort of oldie the party likes.
This translates to anything the tories do and every bracket in society. Don’t vote blue, don’t have money, and in their ideal world you can just roll over and die.
This is why they are doing nothing about cost of living. It doesn’t affect their base as much as literally any other parties. Its not *their* dissatisfaction to deal with.

Older people are still more likely to vote Tory because they have assets to protect and think Johnson and co are more respectable due to their posh education. I canvassed for Labour in my area in the past and the likes of May and Johnson were popular because people thought they could have a cup of tea/pint with them; that was seen as more important than policies. Now that the elderly are struggling themselves, they might actually change their tune and see Johnson for who he is.
At least he dosen’t treat them differently to anyone else.
Yeah the boomer generation is starting to die off in numbers now (COVID really moved things along there) and don’t have the numbers prepared to shuffle down to the polling booths that they used to.
So the Tories can revert to their old ways of letting them die in the cold. That used to be such a thing in the 80s. You used to see stories about it on the news. We’ll never get the pandering the boomers got.
