I recently stayed at a youth hostel in London (Palmer’s Lodge, Swiss Cottage) and everyday was greeted by this fantastic Victorian brass door handle and plate. Just thought it was worth a share as it’s so well put together.

I wish more knobs looked this good.
I wonder what Lord Biscuit would think of what his home became
That looks lovely
It’s crazy how beautiful small things used to be in the Victorian era, even the terraced houses often have fancy brickwork. Enshitification of everything has only sped up since then
Looks like a student practice piece.
Thank you for sharing. I love a good knob.
Now that’s a knob that is need of a damn good polishing fnar fnar….
A well polished knob is to be expected at most youth hostels
An unblotted escutcheon!
Is that proper brass? I learned recently that all those brass doorknobs, handles, finger plates, etc are naturally somewhat antimicrobial due to the copper in them. Basically any microbes from dirty fingers don’t last long on them. Yes they need to be polished up when they go a bit green but still…
Please bear with me, as what I’m going to say will be very strange – but I bet that door smells incredible. Like that oldey timey library smell
Needs some Pearson’s brass hand oil that.
Victorian design was never boring, imagine if they built cars back then. 😂
NSFW please. Can’t be posting knob pics like that.
Who amongst us does not appreciate a hand-polished knob?
That’s not a plate. That’s an escutcheon.
I stayed there like 15 or so years ago and I think I chose it partly because of how nice it looked. Thanks for bringing up good memories!
