A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Northland.
MetService says it applies to Kaipara, the Far North and Whangarei.
It says the weather radar has detected a line of severe thunderstorms lying from Awarua to Titoki and Waiotira.
They are moving to the east-south-east and are likely to be accompanied by torrential rain.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in place for Auckland.
