Louvre security failures exposed in report by France’s auditing body • FRANCE 24 English
Hurry up on security and prioritize better. That is the gist of a report that the Louv had been expecting and one that was written even before thieves made off with 88 million euros worth of royal jewels last month exposing to the world the security failures of the fame museum. In a 154 page document Francis called deont or its independent court of auditors called out multiple issues and how the Louv was run from 2018 to last year. The court found that the museum prioritized visible and appealing measures at the expense of maintenance and renovation of the building and technical facilities. Notably, but not only security. According to the independent body, the museum has been too slow to implement changes and modernize. The report said it had not prioritized security. This despite failings having already been called out in a previous audit. For example, only 39% of the museum’s rooms were equipped with cameras last year. For the period from 2018 to 2024, the Louv invested only €3 million in its security scheme. That means it only attributed 4% of the estimated€83 million that is seen as necessary. In a response that was included in the report, the museum said it accepted most of the points made, but it said that the report did not take into account all the measures that had been taken, namely in regard to security. The management of the world’s largest and most visited museum can only be judged fairly if that judgment is based on a long-term perspective. Following the heist, the head of the Louv, Lawrence Decal, told the French Senate that the museum’s security plans had not faced delays. to discuss the report and the Louv’s governance. She has called an emergency meeting of the museum’s board.
France’s court of auditors urged the Louvre museum to speed up its security modernisation plans as a priority, in a report conducted before the jewel heist that noted major delays in the renovation of the world’s most-visited museum. It said the museum’s investments prioritised “visible and attractive operations” like buying new pieces of art and improving visitor experience at the expense of the maintenance and renovation of buildings and technical installations.

Cameras ? Cameras outside ?
If they had one camera outside that room, no robbery is possible.
Having no cameras outside is unforgivable!
😂😂😂 they had the information before and they did nothing. Incompetence at its best. Maybe thief had this information to help them planning.

Security only adds costs; it doesn't drive revenue. Therefore companies always make it a lower priority.
