The Rev. Scott Santarosa, a pastor at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in San Diego, is one of several clergy members and religious volunteers who have been working three-hour shifts to assist immigrants and their families.
They stand in the hallway outside of the rooms where people attend check-ins. Legally, there is nothing Pastor Santarosa and the other volunteers can do to stop someone from being detained in that hallway. But they said it’s important to them to be there anyway, offering support, a prayer, or simply to observe and bear witness.
