Why the rest of Hungary hates Debrecen ? I am from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the only city I was in was Debrecen. I wonder why the Hungarians are ashamed of Debrecen.

  8. Nobody hates Debrecen. It’s one of the best cities in Hungary. After Pécs and Szeged.

    By the way… Bosnia is so underrated in terms of tourism.

  9. Plot twist: This map was made by some austrians, who hated that they couldn’t capture the government in 1849 because it moved to Debrecen.

    Hungarians don’t hate Debrecen. Period.

  12. 1. Debrecen is Hungary’s 2nd largest city after the capital, but it is in the middle of nowhere and has very little of interest, so people jokingly refer to it as the country’s largest village. I don’t think people hate it as much as they think of it as a joke.
    2. These polls are always pulled out of someone’s ass and have no source, so I wouldn’t put much stock in them.

  13. Debrecen is trash. No driving culture, the place is dirty (literally full of dog shit), people are idiots.

  14. The people joke a lot about the northeast of the country because it’s very rural and well, ethnically very heterogenous. Crime rates are also very high (in Borsod and Nógrád counties) but the reason why Debrecen is joked about is about how rural the city is. Someone here on Reddit even said some days ago on a post about Hungarian cities outside Budapest: “My gf lived in Debrecen and he says it’s everything but a city.”

  15. I lived there for 11 months. I hated it. I have a pretty good frame of reference, I lived in 8 cities in Hungary.

I could bet on it, that the most hated city right now in Hungary is Budapest because government propaganda is agitating the population, and the capital is one of the last bastions of the opposition (besides Szeged) even though the opposition barely won there last time. So most of Hungary now hates the liberals in Budapest who want to send our children to gender altering treatments and then to fight in Ukraine.

  19. To be fair I have no idea why its Debrecen. I would think something like Ozd would be much more disliked. Debrecen did nothing wrong!

  20. Idk. I lóvé in Debrecen i really love it. It importált in the hungaryan history at the 1800-1900’s years. But its fckn far from the other cities. It alsó has butiful places. But its realy big zhe 80% of the town is actualy trash

  23. I think Miskolc is more hated or at least memed than Debrecen, at least from what I see around me and on the internet.

  33. Reasons to hate Debrecen-

    Literary has nothing fun to do in Debrecen

    If you want to visit some other European countries, every fucking time you have to go Budapest as Debrecen airport is of no use

    People are less friendly. They don’t want to involve with people of different cultures.

    Btw university of Debrecen is trash to study in.
