As an Irish person, I advise anyone thinking of moving to Ireland to think again. Rent is gone crazy expensive and the quality of what’s out there is shockingly shit.

  1. I live in the United States, but all my cousins and uncles live in Ireland. What’s the average cost of rent there? Say dublin or the surrounding areas?

  2. I’m being sent to emergency accommodation tomorrow where I’ll be put in a room with a stranger in a b&b in a different county to where I’m based and where my child is. While I’m sharing a room with a stranger the government is paying people to take in people from a different country. There’s no incentive to take care of ours whatsoever.
Honestly I think the irish just need to leave, there’s nothing for us here. I’m not Ukrainian enough to be assisted.

  3. You should see my place, I have a gas cooker that I have to manually ignite the flame with a lighter at the back of the oven.
The thing was installed in the late 1900s

  4. I know we probably have very different perspectives but as an immigrant living here for a few years I totally love this country

  5. A few years ago I lived with my ex boyfriend in a big old house in Fairview in Dublin. He wasn’t Irish and illegally in Ireland so we didn’t have much choice on where we could live. It was the absolute worst house I have ever seen in my life. Black mould absolutely everywhere. At one point it had been split into bedsits but then converted back into a shared house. When it was converted they didn’t bother wiring it up again properly so some of the rooms had no electricity, there were extension leads all over the house, we had no ceiling light in our bedroom, we had to use lamps plugged into the extension leads. The house had no central heating, we used to sleep in clothes and had 3 duvets on the bed it was so cold. Three or four people to some of the rooms, no living room because it was somebody’s bedroom. One person would move out and move their friend in without ever telling anybody so you’d just meet some stranger on the landing. An African guy moved in once and had a huge problem with us as we were a gay couple.

It was one of the most depressing experiences of my life, that landlord was an absolute scumbag taking advantage of poor people that were desperate for a better life. I hope he’s rotting in hell.

  6. I know people who have moved to Geneva (almost exact same wages as Dublin) for a lower cost of living. Geneva.

  7. i have a co-worker that literally lives in a tent, shower at the gym, and eat everything on the go(no home no fridge i guess)

and hes a tier 2 trainer, his income is probably arround 40k.

id rather do that too… i didn’t left my country to sleep next to the cooktop, and have a all in one wardrobe/pantry

  8. Life is shit in most places , where I live there are barely any jobs and I have a masters in economics and you can’t criticize the government or you would be locked up

In the US, the main reason for bankruptcy is medical debt and an emergency ride cost you from hundred to a couple thousand dollars and food tastes like plastic.

Pick your flavor of sh*** I guess…

  9. First day on this sub. I am an American who expects to have citizenship papers completed by the end of the year, and I see this.

Honestly though I am not discouraged. Housing is completely ridiculous in the US.

  10. As a Mexican who had wanted to vist (and possibly move) Ireland in the near future, I am now I having second thoughts.

  11. Oh I know brother since covid.im.back at my parents at 25….. can’t find a place to rent or a room. Don’t know how much longer I can live with my parents before jumping out the window 😂
