JD Vance and his wife were the life of the party at the 250th Birthday Ball of the United States Marine Corps, where they weren’t afraid to crack a few jokes.

The Vice President, aged 41, gave an uplifting speech at the historic event, recounting tales from his own time in the Marines and paying tribute to the unyielding brotherhood, integrity, and might of America’s warriors. This marked the first time a Vice President, who is also a Marine veteran, attended the event, celebrating the Corps’ motto of “peace through strength.”

JD made his grand entrance with his wife of 11 years by his side, as the crowd greeted them with cheers and applause. And it seems the couple wasn’t afraid to show their fun-loving side. Lip reader Nicola Hickling used her expertise to decipher what was said as they made their grand entrance.

She started off by saying, “JD greets several people as they walk through, and says, ‘Hi guys, how are we? Looking proper tonight! How you doing? Guys (gives thumbs up) alright?'” which was followed by Usha announcing, “We’re here!”, reports the Irish Star.

JD responded with, “Oh yes,” before receiving a kiss on the cheek from his wife. Usha then mentioned, “I’d like to go here,” indicating where she wanted to sit at the event, to which JD humorously asked, “Together or on your own?”.

The VP then playfully nudged her with a grin, saying, “You’re not going away,” and added, “You gave me the angle.”

Nicola shared her analysis, stating, “This light and affectionate exchange captures the couple’s easy chemistry as they enter the ballroom.

“Usha’s ‘We’re here’ feels like a simple acknowledgment of arrival, a moment of shared relief and readiness before stepping into the ballroom. J.D. Vance’s playful teasing, particularly his final line “you gave me the angle,” suggests they’re aware of the cameras and enjoying the attention with humor and composure.”

Meanwhile, at the event, JD had the crowd laughing during his speech when he recounted meeting a 99 year old Iwo Jima veteran earlier that evening.

The Marine had ribbed him about his beard, leading JD to quip, “I’m the vice president of the United States, and this guy is busting my b—- for having a beard.”

He chuckled and added, “That, my friends, is what the Marine Corps does – it keeps us honest.”

Throughout his remarks, the VP honored Marines from every generation, “from the young to the old, from the lance corporals born in 2006 to the veterans of Iwo Jima.”

He told the crowd he was “proud” of each Marine and pledged, “We’re going to keep on winning America’s wars for the next 250 years.”

In a moment of determination, JD also promised that America’s leaders would never again send troops into danger without a clear mission and support for those in the field.
