The Moldovan Security and Information Service (SIS) updated the list of people involved in terrorist activities and the distribution of weapons of mass destruction.
In document number 149, the name of Syria’s president Ahmed ash-Sharaa was listed.
The head of SIS Oleksandr Mustata signed the order as early as November 3, and publication took place on November 7 in the Official Monitor of Moldova.
Context and actions regarding the President of Syria
According to documents, ash-Sharaa led Syria as the head of the Islamist group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which is recognized as a terrorist organization in many countries around the world.
Until November 6, Ahmed ash-Sharaa was on the UN sanctions list for leading HTS, previously linked to al-Qaeda.
It is also known that on November 6, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution proposed by the United States that removed Ahmed ash-Sharaa and Interior Minister Anas Hatab from the lists of individuals subject to sanctions against ISIS and al-Qaeda.
On November 10, ash-Sharaa is set to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
This situation underscores the international community’s active efforts to combat terrorism and the spread of weapons of mass destruction, as well as Moldova’s role in expanding the sanctions regime.
