Breaking: Erdogan demands Sweden and Finland reveal the secret technology behind smörgåstårta
Here is a thread for Turks, Greeks, and Swedes to fight. Enjoy it. 🍿🍿
Sweden should not accept any demands from Turkey.
Every time Turkey tries to blackmail someone they make up a PKK story. Politician they don’t like gets more support than usual? That politician has PKK links. Sweden trying to apply to NATO and Turkey can milk this situation? The country is a PKK safehaven. Greece asks Turkey to respect the international framework regarding EEZ? Greece is a PKK training ground. Syria is weak and there is an opportunity to grab more land for Turkey? Syria needs a PKK free zone.
It would be funny if it wasn’t relevant to NATO security. Thankfully the US is building a great security network in the Eastern Mediterranean that will render Turkey less of a sole representative of importance in the region.
Yea… This will seriously hurt my relationship with Swedish friends.
EDIT: Holy shit people, I meant *their* opinion about *me*, not the other way around.
Our president talked with Erdogan a month ago and there were no conditions, now all of a sudden there is. I have no stance on Turkeys demands but this was pretty “F U” way to bring this up. Our President seemed a bit [pissed](https://youtu.be/TxyNFAO3TAU?t=2274) today too at the press conference about this. What was the reason this couldn’t be brought up a month ago? This could be solved already by now.
EDIT: Added link.
I am probably going to regret asking this but in what sense is Sweden supporting a terrorist organization?
“We demand you turn a blind eye to our authoritarian crimes against humanity.”
It’s an understandable demand short term, I suppose. It’s also a hilariously clear signal about how far from being a functional democracy, let alone a Rechtsstaat, contemporary Turkey is.
My best to anyone in Turkey doing what they can to help moving along from the Erdogan regime. Gonna take a lot of time, unfortunately.
Boycott Turkey! With every vacation you take there you embolden charades like this one.
I don’t think we (Finland & Sweden) should get overtly upset about this. It is what it is and I’m sure they’ll find an agreement. Turkey’s demands haven’t so far come off as anything impossible.
And for context, Greece blocked Macedonia’s membership for years over a silly dispute of their name. Shenanigans within Nato aren’t unheard of.
>Turkey’s foreign minister said on Sunday that Sweden and Finland must stop supporting terrorist groups in their countries, provide clear security guarantees and lift export bans on Turkey as they seek membership in NATO.
Okay, Finland’s not supporting terrorist groups in the country, and the North Atlantic Treaty *is* a security guarantee, so that’s mostly done.
Lifting the export ban on military equipment is fair given that we’re going to be part of the same military alliance.
This is what we call iltalypsy in Finnish. It means when you milk your cows in the evening, to get every last bit of milk out of them. We even had a political satire show with this name in the 1990s.
None of this had been an issue until now. Turkey is destabilizing NATO in the Baltics. It’s going to be extremely hard to defend the Baltic members without Sweden and Finland as NATO-allies. Turkey needs to explain its endgame endorsing a weakening of the Baltic front.
Bow down to the Sultan , you Varangian leftovers. Welcome to the reality distortion field that is turkish diplomacy. Just take a look at the misinformation in these threads.
Fair enough for Sweden but that’s a dick move on Finland

I hope they don’t get any equipment from the USA.
can Turkey veto their membership?
