Trump floats $2,000 tariff rebate checks for most Americans in social media post

  • 10.11.2025

(CNN) – President Donald Trump called people who don’t support tariffs “fools” and floated the idea of $2,000 rebate checks for almost all Americans in a social media post Sunday.

Trump said on Truth Social that the United States is taking in trillions of dollars thanks to far-reaching tariffs he has imposed since taking office in January. He said the country will soon start paying down $37 trillion in debt.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country in the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price,” Trump wrote.

The president also said a “dividend” of at least $2,000 would be paid to everyone, not including “high income people.”

Trump’s comments come after the Supreme Court heard arguments last week over his authority to impose tariffs through executive orders.

The tariffs have caused some prices to rise, as companies try to offset their costs, and inflation in August remained higher than the Federal Reserve’s target of 2%, according to the Associated Press.
