Global energy services provider Expro (NYSE:XPRO) has announced the successful first deployment of its new ELITE Composition service for a major oil and gas operator in an exploration well offshore Cyprus, marking an important milestone in the company’s drive to enhance wellsite decision-making capabilities.

Launched earlier this year, ELITE Composition is designed to provide laboratory-standard fluid measurements directly at the rig site within approximately eight hours.

The service enables operators to make faster, better-informed decisions while significantly reducing rig time and costs associated with traditional sampling and analysis methods.

Until now, confirming hydrocarbon quality and sample integrity typically required the shipment of samples to international laboratories, a process that could stretch over several months due to complex logistical and regulatory restrictions.

By offering these advanced capabilities onsite, Expro’s new service eliminates those time lags, helping operators accelerate operational planning and resource evaluation.

In this first Cyprus deployment, Expro integrated its proprietary TurboPVT™, ELITE Composition, and contaminant analysis technologies to deliver rapid, high-accuracy results.

The combined data validated sampling runs for the operator, while also supporting onboard calibration of wireline logs and dynamic reservoir modelling.

The operator was able to gain greater confidence in reservoir characterisation and move forward with an optimised plan for future development in the East Mediterranean region.

This milestone underscores Expro’s ability to deliver innovation directly to the rig site, demonstrating both technical excellence and a strong understanding of evolving industry needs.

The company’s Well Flow Management offering, which includes a comprehensive Sampling & Analysis Portfolio, continues to expand its global footprint across key energy markets, especially those focused on frontier and deepwater exploration.

Gregório Rodrigues, Expro’s Vice President of Well Flow Management, said the success of the deployment reflects growing demand for efficient, technology-driven exploration solutions.

“The success of this first deployment highlights the growing demand for our services and reinforces the strength of our Sampling & Analysis Portfolio in the exploration market,” stated Rodrigues.

“We expect ELITE Composition to play an integral role in future wells, paving the way for expanded laboratory and sampling opportunities in new frontiers and highly active exploration and appraisal markets.”

The East Mediterranean has emerged as one of the most active hydrocarbon regions globally, with recent discoveries driving renewed exploration and production investment.

Operators in the area face increasing pressure to optimise operations, accelerate time-to-market, and minimise environmental impact — a set of challenges Expro’s ELITE Composition service is poised to address.

By reducing reliance on remote laboratories and allowing for nearly real-time compositional data, Expro’s new technology helps operators make earlier assessments about production viability, flow assurance, and economic planning.

The ability to obtain reliable data within hours rather than months represents a significant shift in operational efficiency, aligning with industry efforts to streamline exploration workflows.

Expro’s achievement in Cyprus marks the beginning of what could be broader adoption of at-rig fluid analysis technologies across global offshore and onshore operations, particularly in settings where turnaround time and logistical complexity have historically constrained productivity.
