Paris court decides to release Nicolas Sarkozy early from prison • FRANCE 24 English

Paris court decides to release Nicolola Sakoi early from prison. The Paris Court of Appeal on Monday decided to release former President Nicolola Sakoi from prison while it deliberates on an appeal launched by his lawyers. Sarakosi began serving a 5-year prison sentence at Lassante prison in Paris in October. The 70-year-old was convicted on charges of criminal conspiracy to finance his 2007 presidential bid with funds from former Libyan dictator Muhammad Gaddafi. Sarako’s prison sentence was enforced immediately because of the quote extraordinary seriousness of the crime. Judge Natalie Gabino told the court. The former president is the first French leader in modern times to be imprisoned. As soon as he set foot inside prison on October 21st, Sarakuzi’s lawyers filed a request for his immediate release. Sakuzi is now set to leave Paris’s Lante prison within hours under judicial supervision. The court said that Sakuzi would be banned from leaving the French territory and not allowed contact with other indicted individuals and witnesses involved in the case.
