Asylum seekers could get £100 a week to move out of hotels.
Downing Street believes this payment plan, which would be rolled out in 2026, could cut the cost of housing asylum seekers to a seventh of what is currently spent accommodating them in hotels.

  1. Wow. Labour are really not listening to people, are they?

  2. Or we could just stop this housing malarkey and cut what makes it so attractive to come here.. aka the free housing, food, healthcare, people to stab and rape.

    Just stop giving them shit.

  3. Can I get £100 a week tax cut?

I’ve worked all my life and pay my own way, so surely I’m a bigger benefit to the UK economy than a migrant?

  4. Or how about we put them all in a big camp with tents and a nice big fence around it until they are deported swiftly back to wherever they came from. They would soon stop coming if they knew they wouldn’t get the red carpet treatment.

  5. It reads like madness to see them saying they’re offering to pay migrants to go live with a friend. If so many of them have connections here already that this saves money then their asylum claim needs to be examined better.

But the absolutely crazy thing is apparently paying migrants £100 a week is CHEAPER than the system the Tories set up. That they’re saying this would be a seventh of the cost us fucking insane. The monthly spend on migrants must be at least 3x what my disability benefits are if paying a migrant £400 per month will be 1/7th the price of the Tory hotel scheme.

You cannot seriously keep floating plans to cut disability benefits to save money when the obvious tax hole is non citizens abusing the West.

  6. We could just deport them and say drop them out of the sky. They are here illegally and no one knows they are here. They don’t know where they are from, so is anyone going to notice if they are gone??
    Or

just put them in a camp so they cannot leave the area. If they don’t like it, don’t come or come legally.

  7. Surely the government has a contract to fulfil with the hoteliers? The government can’t just walk leave the hotel free of charge??

  8. As an assylum seekers, u shouldn’t have the ability to say no, I won’t move. If you’re genuine, you should be grateful for safe, reasonable accommodation.

  9. I’m afraid the government is so out of touch with the public in this, they may as well install Farage in No10 now. What terrible optics at a time when Reeves is going to hammer us for more money in the budget.

  10. How about housing them on a boat leaving the country?

  11. Does the 5k a year pay rise extend to all criminals or is it just the border jumpers?

  12. Echoing what others are saying here, 100 quid is too much for people who have 0 right to be here, and nobody actually invited in.

  13. It’s like a burglar breaking into my house and deciding to live there while I work to give him money. Then I have to give him even more money if I want him to leave.

  14. Or, just stop giving them anything. Refuse all asylum applications and deport those that we can. They only come here because of the pull factors. Remove those and they stop coming!

  15. > Home Office officials believe the money – which would be provided on top of the £49.15

    £600 a month.

You can’t make this shit up.

  16. ……. More than the local housing rate for a large portion of the citizen population that require the same assistance….. Cracking idea

  17. And these people deserve our hard earned money because…

  18. The total asylum hotel bill stands at £5.5 million a day, or £2.1 billion a year.

    🤯

  19. The only thing we should be paying for is a flight back to their own country.

  20. So more than Jobseeker’s Allowance? And similar to UC.
Nice one Labour, keep spending everyone else’s money.

  21. Put every single one of them in detention centers. Give them subsistence 2 meals per day. Access to no modern conveniences that weren’t already among their belongings when they arrived. If they arrive with nothing, they have nothing.

Over time, this will cut the cost of housing them by 99%, as they will stop coming. Nobody gets on a dinghy from France to get to a prison in the UK.

  22. You know what would really cut the cost of housing asylum seekers? Not paying for any of it.

  23. Some of them don’t work for decades. They each cost hundreds of thousands of dollars on average over time. Are thousands of them just going to live in tents in the park? I don’t think so. Taxpayers will be just be paying for them in some other way. There won’t be any savings until they are deported.

  24. Benefits going down, taxes going up and asylum seekers get the £400 a month they’re taking away from people’s benefits 😂.

    Shit hole country

  25. I’m sure the government are actually trying to start a war at this stage

  26. £100 per week and then the costs of wherever they put them next. I doubt this reduces the costs by much if anything

  27. It’s almost as if they are sitting around finding ways to deliberately piss off the entire country.

  28. Why is the UK governments answer to anything to do with asylum seekers always start with more money to them ffs.

  29. Why can’t they just move out without being given £100?🤔

  30. Meanwhile my local council has 7,000 homeless citizens that were born and raised here with no means to help them and are complaining about their budget being too low whilst funding 5 hotels full of migrants ( that we know of). Also, we have citizens living in hostels, being forced to pay council tax for a council that refuses to help them but is willing to give handouts to migrants that entered the country illegally.

  31. I’m not British, so perhaps someone can help me understand why the government is putting migrants up in hotels and giving them money. I’m in US, which does not do these things. Immigrants are treated decidedly differently here for better or worse.

  32. Soooooooo benefit bill for uk citizens ballooning and is bad but let’s roll out an equally expensive and consistently ballooning system for illegal migrants …. this country is just fucked

  33. I’m an unpaid carer for my mom, the Government gives me 83 quid a week to live on.
