Boris Johnson takes credit for free bus pass after being told cash-strapped pensioners make trips to keep warm The PM was reacting to claims a 77-year-old woman named Elsie rides the bus all day to cut down on her heating bill

  1. Was this actually an episode of the thick of it or have the walls of reality and insanity just gotten so thin I’m mixing them up?

  2. He just hasn’t got a clue of the struggles of normal everyday people, how any working class person votes for him or justifies his decisions is beyond me.

  3. Funny, because part of the bailout of TfL HIS government did, included removing free travel pass for older and younger people.

That wasn’t a Sadiq Khan thing, that was a total DfT thing.

    Cunt.

  4. The entire exchange just showed the lack of empathy that Johnson has for people in this situation.

He was faced with a very troubling story and instead of taking a moment to “read the room”, he reverted to his default “party political broadcast” mode. Even if Boris or the government doesn’t have the answer, and even if there is nothing they can or will do to help Elsie, it was clearly obvious to anyone with any sense of empathy that at that point, what was needed was an acknowledgement of the challenge she and others face, not a boast from his time running TFL.

It was the same with the point he tried to make about Ukraine, and when Reid disarmed that point with “people aren’t worried about Ukraine”, he had nowhere to go.

  5. Freedom Pass is a concessionary travel scheme, which began in
1973, to provide free travel to residents of Greater London, England,
who are aged 66 and over or who have a disability. The scheme is funded
by local authorities and coordinated by London Councils.

  6. I’m glad he did this interview. Man needs to keep going on mainstream media and revealing himself to be the absolute cretin he is.

  7. The fact people praised him as a hero for how he “handled” the pandemic is disgusting, fast forward 2 years and he discredits all those who died by saying to just “treat it like a flu” and raise prices ridiculously to try and recoup the money they borrowed that we didn’t ask for.

    FUCK. THIS. CUNT.

  8. How out of touch do you need to be to think “ah, I made bus fares free in london” Instead of “fuck, I need to do something, as old people are spending their day on the bus as they can’t afford to keep warm”

Still people voted for this 🤦‍♂️

  9. I’m sat here… literally mouth agape… who… who can respond like that?

I physically cannot compute that… like figurative Windows shutdown sound going on in my brain.

  10. Pensioner: “I can’t afford to heat my house so I have to ride the bus to keep warm.”

BJ: “you should count yourself lucky you don’t have to pay for a bus thanks for me”

BJ walks off thinking that was close, thinking on my feet saved the day though

  11. Seems like his brain just always has to just try wriggle out with some kind of excuse or making himself look good

Trying to spin it into the bus pass being his idea when he’s clearly not really listening to the problem

  12. Rent and cost of living is now so ridiculously high that you could in-theory book cheap long-duration hotel or holiday resort visits for less than it would cost you each month to live permanently in a residence. And that cost goes down even further if you enter the world of extreme couponing.

The best part is that you wouldn’t have to pay council tax or utility bills for your stay because you’re not a tenant. At best you’d have to pay for wi-fi and maybe going to a launderette once every few days, and if you’re smart you’d honestly be using a VPN on any kind of public wi-fi.

Before you go out and book a tonne of hotels, I do not know the legality of this. I imagine this is a loophole that legislation plugged years ago. Also, I imagine that for any kind of foreign travel you’d need a work visa if you plan to work remotely, even solely for a UK company.

  13. There are people blaming the 77 year old woman for her predicament. When energy costs have gone up 54% as a result of protecting stockholders money when BP just announced £5bn profit in 3 months. WTF is wrong with people I legit feel sick

  14. Pure self preservation and trying to elevate himself yet again in response to real issues. The clown needs to go.

  15. And on that bombshell : Eton educated, bullington club elitest, turns out to be out of touch with the struggles of actual people and actually a big blonde sopping cunt.

    Who’d of thunk it?

  16. This is utterly abhorrent. I do wonder why he’s been wheeled out on TV to make a fool of himself, though. Strategy would suggest they want all the bad things to be “Boris’ fault” and come then next election the Conservatives can just switch leader and wash all the bad away.

On the other hand, statistically many of the elderly people who may now be struggling voted for these people and statistically have been doing so for the past few election cycles. I hope now they change their minds.

  17. It turns out after this GMB interview he went back into a fridge. Please check your fridges for any pork pies you don’t remember buying.

  18. I’m sorry but if you’re working class and you vote tory you have shit for brains and you’re more than probably racist.
    Actually I’m not sorry…

  19. “And Elsie has me to thank for having that free bus pass to stay warm!” – Bojo

  20. I’ve never really taken Susanna Reid seriously until now, I stopped watching whatever show she was doing with Piers years ago.

Holy hell, she was on fire here and nailed that blond shitwick to the wall with nails he provided.

  21. His immediate thought wasn’t for the plight of the woman who couldn’t afford to heat her home but, how I can claim credit for her free transport and make this into a positive. Sometimes the briefest gaps into a persons thinking tell you everything about who they are. Like Leon the synth in Blade Runner who couldn’t empathise with the turtle on its back in the desert sun, Boris simply cannot conceptualise beyond what this means for me.

  22. They spent 10 years filling their mates pockets at the expense of the taxpayer and you’re upset because he’s out of touch?

Will you wait for inflation to bankrupt you before you think they could be doing better?

  23. Wonder if auld Elsie voted for him. I try to feel empathy and disgust at the way this government has treat people but then I remember they won the election by a landslide so most people have literally brought this on themselves

  24. It was a typical politician’s way of avoiding answering the question in a way that still gets publicity. He succeeded because the president have focused on what he said rather than what he didn’t.

  25. Boris is just a puppet like the other world leaders we see for the people behind the scenes who actually run the show. Quite fancy a karaoke and a pint night with old Boris he seems a good laugh
